Introducing the New Longines DolceVita with Elegant Art Deco Sector Dials

As you well know, DolceVita is the Longines collection that beautifully interprets the classic taste of the 1920-30s, particularly the Art Deco design trend, with well-defined geometric shapes, clear and unambiguous interpretations, wrapped with flair and elegance that stand the test of time. A century later, it is undeniable that Art Deco has retained its allure and is, no doubt, seeing a resurgence. This is true as well for four-sided wristwatch cases, designed in the Art Deco era, with several icons within this genre seeing renewed attention.

The DolceVita collection, to be precise, dates back to 1997, but it is correctly based upon a Longines from the 1920s and therein a legitimate contender in its realm. Its greatest strength, however, can be found in the fact that Longines’ watchmaking is completely devoid of pretension, completely honest and offers some of the best values in the Swiss watch industry.

This year, DolceVita by Longines is enriched with a new design of its dial. The aesthetic enhancement is manifested by the sectorised dials that add to the Art Deco ideology that inspires it. Its clear dial surface and a set of three long and thin blued hands are distinguished with a subtle balance of silver tones. Specifically, the new Longines DolceVita offers two styles.

The purest concept of the new DolceVita — which is “very” Art Deco — offers Arabic numerals 3, 6, 9, and 12 painted on a clean silver dial, barely accentuated by a sort of crosshair in the center and a date window.

The arched case with its short lugs brings ergonomics to the watch and finds a way to maximize the impact of the piece’s design. Overall, this renewed dial of the DolceVita is characterized by its simplicity and clarity. The references representing this variant are the L5.757 (measuring 27.7 x 43.8 mm) and L5.767 (28.2 x 47.0 mm). Notably, both employ an L592 mechanical movement (base ETA A.20.L011) that beats at 28,800 bph and boasts 45 hours of power reserve.

On the other side of the spectrum, the alternate iteration of the DolceVita features a full set of twelve Roman numerals. Adding to this decidedly more opulent style is a flinqué-type machined guilloché finish, a subsidiary seconds hand and adds diamond setting on the bezel. The general references of this DolceVita are the L5.255 (20.8 x 32.0 mm) and L512 (23.3 x 37.0 mm), and employ ETA quartz movements.

A significant added value of DolceVita is the availability of a wide array of colorful, quick-change leather straps that allow the wearer to add a personal flair when wearing the DolceVita (refs. L5.757 and L5.767). The new calfskin variants in white, blue, and “golden” brown hues allow each customer to customize the watch according to his or her wishes. The DolceVita automatic L5.255 and L5.512 come with leather straps with triple-fold clasps.
