Bvlgari Octo Finissimo 37: Jonathan Brinbaum on Life Beyond the Records
In Singapore, Joyceline Tully, Editor-in-Chief of Revolution Asia, sits down with Jonathan Brinbaum, Managing Director of Bvlgari’s Watches Division, to understand why. At Watches and Wonders 2026, Bvlgari did something few expected. After more than a decade in which the Octo Finissimo became synonymous with record-setting ultra-thin watchmaking, the maison shifted the conversation with the new Octo Finissimo 37 mm. For Brinbaum, the 37 is less about pursuing another record than reaching a new stage of maturity for the Octo Finissimo. Its proportions have been reconsidered from the ground up, while the new BVF 100 micro-rotor calibre is significantly more compact yet delivers an increased 72-hour power reserve. They discuss why 37mm became the chosen size, why Bvlgari resisted simply shrinking the existing watch, and how changing attitudes towards size, gender and mechanical watchmaking are influencing the maison’s direction. The conversation also explores titanium’s continuing importance to Octo Finissimo, the challenge of miniaturisation, the arrival of a 37mm Minute Repeater and why Brinbaum believes the next measure of ultra-thin watchmaking will increasingly be energy efficiency rather than thinness alone. More broadly, Joy and Jonathan discuss how Bvlgari is bringing together two sides of its identity: Roman design and Swiss watchmaking expertise.
