The Artem Loop-Less Sailcloth Strap, now in blue

If you’re the sort of person who cares about the fit and quality of your watch strap, the deployant — or folding — clasp is one of your best friends. A step up from the humble pin-and-buckle clasp, a deployant not only allows you to get the perfect fit every time, but it also greatly reduces the wear and tear on your strap, making it look good for longer.

To be honest, though, looking good for a long time isn’t a huge concern for Artem’s Loopless Sailcloth straps. Based in Australia, Artem has spent years honing their formula for the perfect sailcloth strap — and by this point, their offering is as good as anything made for the big brands. Honestly, if you’re the lucky owner of a Silver Snoopy, you need this strap.

Before we dive into this particular flavor of sailcloth, let’s quickly break down just what makes the material such a versatile choice. Rather than being made from actual sailcloth, sailcloth straps refer to a wide range of rugged canvas or synthetic fabric straps that sit somewhere between leather and rubber, offering the perfect blend of form and function. Artem’s take is made from a synthetic material, embossed with a sailcloth pattern, giving the right textural look and feel while promising all-terrain durability. The rear of the strap is silky smooth, thanks to the water-resistant backing.
That’s the sailcloth; now, how about the “Loop-Less” part of it? This strap is designed to be used with deployants — the long tail of the strap sits under the buckle and doesn’t need an extra keeper loop to hold it in place. It’s a smart design that results in a smooth and very sleek profile. Artem has offered this style of strap for a while now, and they’re constantly improving it based on wearer feedback — small things like the placing of the holes to ensure as good a fit as possible for as many wrists as possible, and tweaking the overall length of the strap. Not only does this make for a better strap, but it greatly speaks to how seriously Artem takes the quality of their offering.

Of course, while the Loop-Less has been around for a minute, the blue is completely new. It’s offered in a range of widths, from 19mm all the way up to 22mm. The strap is priced at USD 133, and can be fitted with quick-release bars or regular spring bars for a few dollars more. (Side note: It’s 2022, do yourself a favor and go for the quick-release — you’ll never look back.) Artem also offers a range of deployants to go with them, including one specifically made for the Loop-Less. Finally, you can get the strap with tonally matched stitching or a contrasting white stitch.
