TAG Heuer’s current heritage collection, ‘Heuer’-branded Carrera, has been an enthusiast favourite for years, and periodically we’re treated to special versions and limited editions. But never before have we seen a Carrera this *spicy*.
The Low-Down
There is no denying that the dial of this watch is undeniably, distinctively, passionately — red. Sitting under the highly domed sapphire crystal, safe in its 39mm steel case, the sunray brushed dial of this Carrera alternates in hue between a glass of rich burgundy or the soft petal of a rose, depending on the light and the wearer’s poetic frame of reference. This red plays nicely with the steel dial hardware, the printed dial text and warm, butterscotch-toned luminous material. For all that, the dial looks like it might be something straight out of the 60s; from the rear, there’s no mistaking that this is a contemporary piece, thanks to the Heuer 02 calibre, which in addition to being a current-gen vertical clutch chronograph movement, offers 80 hours of power reserve.
IMHO
This is an undeniably pretty watch — perhaps too pretty for some. If you’re the type of person who prefers your automotive chronographs on the more conservative side, don’t worry, TAG Heuer has a wide and deep catalogue for you to explore. But if you never realised in your heart just how much you needed a cherry red chrono, well, TAG Heuer made 600 of them, and today might just well be your lucky day.
