Patek Philippe, Lange and Rolex Achieve Top Results at Antiquorum’s April Sale
For most of us in the U.S., April 15 was tax day, but for some lucky bidders, it was a chance to acquire a fine timepiece at Antiquorum’s spring sale in New York City. The auction took place at the company’s new U.S. headquarters, located at 805 Third Ave. The sale totaled $2,547,875, with 107% of the 272 timepieces sold by value.
The top lot was the Patek Philippe Ref. 5102 Celestial. Made in 2006 and sold the following year, this piece in 18k white gold was sold with its original fitted wood box and a leather folder with technical information and instructions. The hammer price was $231,750. (All prices include premiums).
A Patek Philippe ref. 5270 in white gold that was produced in 2012 and sold the following year brought $159,750. This piece included its original box, papers, setting pin and both case backs.
An A. Lange & Söhne ref. 7604 Richard Lange Tourbillon Pour Le Merite in pink gold produced in 2013 rounded out the top three sales, also bringing $159,750.
Rare and highly collectible pieces from Rolex also brought strong prices. A Rolex ref. 6239 Paul Newman Daytona in stainless steel on an Oyster riveted bracelet sold for $111,750, while spirited bidding on a ref. 6541 honeycomb tropical Milgauss made in 1958 produced a final price of $99,750.
Not all pieces approached six figures, though active bidding brought strong prices for collector favorites. Several Paneristi competed for the Panerai Pam 00382 Luminor Submersible 150 3 Days Bronzo and Titanium. The limited edition diver’s watch with date and power reserve brought $27,500, more than twice its presale estimate.
A two-tone Audemars Piguet Ref. 5402 Royal Oak Jumbo “A Series” topped its high estimate at $25,000
And a Tudor Ref. 7149 Monte Carlo steel chronograph achieved $20,625.
