Introducing: The TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition for 2022
By Felix ScholzThe Low-Down
The relationship between TAG Heuer and the ate Ayrton Senna is special, and while the Brazilian racer was an ambassador from 1988 until his untimely death in 1994 at the age of 34, TAG Heuer still honours the incredible racer to this day; most recently with the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Senna Special Edition for 2022.

It’s worth asking what makes Senna special, well, for one, his incredible talent. Over his career, Senna racked up 65 Grand Prix pole positions, 41 GP wins and world championships in 88,89 and 91. On the watch front, he’s most commonly associated with the iconic S/el (short for Sports Elegance), which later became the link collection.

IMHO
As a result, the S-link style bracelet is a prominent feature for all Senna tribute watches, and this latest edition is no different. The 44mm steel-cased watch does indeed offer sports elegance thanks to the smooth and sinuous bracelet, as well as the prominent scalloped bezel, with a black ceramic insert featuring Senna’s name and his double ‘S’ logo in red. The red colour, inspired by Senna’s original TAG Heuer, which also had red highlights, is picked up on the crown, pushers and elements of the dial, giving the whole package a go-faster feel. The dial itself is finished in a sunray-brushed anthracite, a sophisticated middle ground between the steel case and black bezel. Again, Senna’s distinctive logo can be found in the bottom register. Many Formula 1 watches are powered by quartz calibres, but this number runs off the ever-reliable calibre 16 automatic, hidden behind a solid caseback, engraved with the legendary driver’s helmet.
