Flash of Genius: The TAG Heuer Carrera Fragment
Jeff Stein from OnThe Dash just published a deep dive on the TAG Heuer Carrera Fragment that’s a must read, so here’s a quick background on the watch before we lead you to Jeff.
Next to the Monaco, the Carrera is probably the first watch that comes to mind when one mentions TAG Heuer. The round case is timeless and combined with the substantive lugs, makes for a tough yet refined watch that is in perfect congruity with its given name, taken from the Carrera Panamericana, one of the most hellish open-road car races conceived by man. Over the years, the Carrera has taken on a plurality of different looks while staying true to sports/tool watch character; lately, TAG Heuer also collaborated with streetwear maestro Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment Design to create a special edition that brings together the vintage-inspired looks of early Heuer Carrera chronographs and the company’s modern in-house movement the Heuer 02. What Fujiwara brings to the table, is astute aesthetic judgment that cuts to the essence of what a really cool Carrera is going to look like.
