Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold Gilt: Michel Navas & Enrico Barbasini on the Art of the Dial
Wei Koh sits down with Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini at Geneva Watch Days 2026 to discuss the Daniel Roth Extra Plat Rose Gold Gilt.
At first glance, it appears to be a slim two-hand dress watch with a black dial and rose-gold markings. In reality, the dial is far more complex. It begins with a solid gold base, which is decorated with pinstripe guilloché before the numerals, signature, minute track and individual number are carefully masked.
The dial then undergoes multiple electroplating treatments to achieve its deep black finish. Once the masking is removed, the rose-gold markings are revealed from the gold base beneath, creating a depth and surface quality that cannot be achieved through conventional printing.
The watch is housed in Daniel Roth’s signature double-ellipse case in 5N rose gold and powered by the manual-winding DR002 manufacture calibre, developed and assembled at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton under the supervision of Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini.
