Best Revival 2022: Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222

Share

It has been a phenomenal year for the watch world. To round off 2022, we are celebrating the hits, the wonders, the visionaries and all the people in watchmaking who have made it so memorable in our annual Revolution Awards and Power Lists.

For our Revival Award we had one clear winner, the incredible modern remake of the mighty Vacheron Constantin Historiques 222.

For many years, I had been asking Vacheron Constantin’s style and heritage director Christian Selmoni if the brand would relaunch the magnificent Jörg Hysek-designed reference 222. But little did I know that it was not yet the right time. Louis Ferla, the CEO of Vacheron Constantin and a man I’ve come to hugely admire, was right to launch it this year.

Amid the massive hunger for integrated bracelet sports watches with the Overseas becoming a hugely sought-after unicorn, when Vacheron unveiled the stunning yellow gold Historiques 222, the world lost its mind. The Singapore boutique has over 2,000 names on the waiting list for the possible 10 watches per year that it will receive. And for good reason — the watch is perfectly executed and the addition of a contemporary quick-set date function makes a huge difference to wearability.
