A pair of limited editions designed for sea and land adventures.
While Bell & Ross has a longstanding reputation for its aviation watches, the brand also offers a collection of timepieces suited for both land and sea adventures. The latest additions to their lineup are a pair of limited edition watches: the BR 03-92 Diver Tara and the BR 03-94 Blacktrack. These watches depart from the typical aviation theme while still embodying the brand’s essence, including their quintessential square case crafted from ceramic.

BR 03-92 Diver Tara

Let’s begin with the BR 03-92 Diver Tara, which stands out with its distinctive case, meticulously constructed from matte blue ceramic – a material typically associated with high-end timepieces. The choice of blue is not arbitrary; it commemorates Bell & Ross inaugural year of partnership with the Tara Ocean Foundation.

The Tara Ocean Foundation is a notable French organization holding the status of a Special Observer at the United Nations. Over the past two decades, it has been dedicated to researching ocean biodiversity and raising awareness about pollution in both the public and policymaking spheres.

Given the foundation’s signature color palette of orange and blue, the BR 03-92 Diver Tara naturally adopts these hues. The combination of blue and orange is not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical for a dive watch. Blue invokes the color of the ocean, while the eye-catching orange enhances legibility underwater. Notably, both the case and strap’s dark colors create the impression of a more compact appearance than the watch’s 42 mm size would suggest.

Of particular note is the blue ceramic case, which retains its high-quality construction and sharp aesthetics, as expected from Bell & Ross. It manages to preserve the intricate details of the standard steel case, despite the inherent challenges of working with ceramic. These cases are produced by G&F Chatelain, a case manufacturer associated with Bell & Ross – Chanel owns this casemaker and has a stake in the watchmaker.

BR 03-94 Blacktrack

Another interesting addition to the lineup is the BR 03-94 Blacktrack, signifying a milestone in the watchmaker’s venture into the realm of motorcycling, a journey initiated in 2011 when Bell & Ross collaborated with Shaw Harley-Davidson to create a unique motorcycle: The Nascafe Racer Bell & Ross.

The BR 03-94 draws inspiration from a recent creation by the brand, the Blacktrack BT-06 motorcycle, a collaborative endeavor between Bell & Ross and the renowned French product designer Sacha Lakic. As a result, the watch is elegantly adorned in an all-black attire with a dash of red, mirroring the exquisite aesthetics of the motorbike.

Notably, the watch dial incorporates elements reminiscent of a motorcycle. For instance, the layout of the counters mirrors a dashboard, with the overall design reminiscent of handlebars. Another noteworthy detail is the date window at six o’clock, featuring a stylish font in striking red, making it one of the more thoughtful date displays in this price range.

Inside the 42 mm black ceramic case is the BR-CAL.301, essentially an ETA 2894, with an ETA 2892 base topped by a Dubois-Depraz chronograph. The BR 03-92 Diver Tara also houses an ETA-based movement, the BR-CAL.302, a rebranded Sellita SW300. Both movements have stood the test of time and are admittedly no-frills, although they perform reliably. Their basic nature might create the impression that the watch is somewhat costly, although it’s reasonable to argue that the ceramic case could partially justify the cost.
