New year, new look
Vacheron Constantin enters Watches & Wonders 2024 with grandeur and majesty. The brand has just revealed the world’s most complex watch yet, boasting 63 complications. Surpassing its predecessor, the Tivoli ref. 57260, which debuted in 2015 with 57 complications, the new Berkley Grand Complication pocket watch has stepped it up even further. Both timepieces were commissioned by the same American patron.

Compared to the Tivoli of eight years ago, the Berkley introduces additional complications, particularly in its calendar functions. Both watches offer culturally or regionally specific calendars, with the latest featuring a Chinese perpetual calendar, while the previous Tivoli showcased a Hebrew calendar. This remarkable watch deserves a closer look. You can find more details in another post linked above.

In addition to the show stopping 72-mm Berkley, Vacheron has unveiled over a dozen new timepieces, ranging from high-jewelry bracelet watches for women to the exquisite Collection Excellence Platine high-complication piece. Here’s an overview of the latest releases in 2024.

Patrimony 20th Anniversary

First in the lineup is a trio of watches conceived to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Patrimony collection, the brand’s signature minimalist, pared-back line of watches. In light of this joyous occasion, the anniversary Patrimony trio features a new palette with a pale champagne dial, which the brand romantically refers to as “antique silver”, perfectly complemented by the golden hands and markers.

New to the lineup are not only the warm dials but also a new case. The Patrimony Manual-Winding, for instance, now boasts a smaller case of 39 mm, which is 1 mm smaller than the existing model. This adjustment responds to collectors’ feedback, as the 40-mm Patrimony could feel slightly large due to its flat profile. The new 39 mm Manual-Winding is available in both white and pink gold, each featuring solid 18k pink gold hands and markers. For those seeking a larger and more luxurious Patrimony experience, there’s good news: the Patrimony Moon Phase Retrograde Date in the same “antique silver” dial palette and olive green strap. This watch is exclusively available in a 42.5 mm white gold case, making it a perfect pairing for his and hers with the Manual-Winding.

Traditionelle Tourbillon Chronograph Collection Excellence Platine

Turning to a watch with a cooler palette, the Traditionelle Tourbillon Chronograph Collection Excellence Platine (CEP) emerges as one of the most exquisite releases by the brand at the fair. Limited to just 50 pieces – as the CEP collection always remains exclusive with limited runs – the new Traditionelle Tourbillon Chronograph boasts a comprehensive platinum construction from the case to the buckle, and even the dial and stitching of the strap. However, the highlight undoubtedly lies in the platinum dial with a delicate frosting, yielding an icy-cool and refreshing appearance when paired with the blue and silver hands and markers.

Notably, the movement of this watch is rather intriguing. First, the extra-large tourbillon is positioned at 12 o’clock instead of the usual six. Second, it features not a typical chronograph but a monopusher chronograph. Third, the clutch of the chronograph has a novel construction consisting of two layers of clutch wheels held together by friction. This design prevents the stuttering of the chronograph second hand, a common issue with lateral-clutch chronographs.

Intense-Green Overseas Quartet

Returning to watches with a luxurious and warm palette, Vacheron has unveiled not one, not two, but four Overseas models featuring an “intense” olive-green dial, all paired with 18k rose gold cases and bracelets. It’s hard to beat such a combination for a warmer and richer aesthetic!
The new quartet comprises both men’s and women’s models, including the Overseas Self-Winding in 35 mm and 41 mm sizes, as well as the Overseas Dual Time and Overseas Chronograph. Among these, the most striking is undoubtedly the Overseas Dual Time. Traditionally the rugged model of the Overseas collection, known for its titanium and tantalum case that has conquered Mount Everest, the rose gold case and olive green dial present a captivating contrast to its adventurous identity, which collectors are sure to appreciate.

All-Titanium Overseas Tourbillon

The Overseas Tourbillon takes a bold step towards a sportier profile with its latest iteration now available entirely in titanium, from the case to the bracelet. Titanium is a rarity among high-end sports watches, which often favor steel or precious metals, but the brand’s titanium Overseas line has been steadily expanding, with both the Dual-Time and Tourbillon now offering titanium versions. While the previous Tourbillon model featured an open dial, the latest rendition opts for a clean and simple aesthetic, adorned with the brand’s signature lustrous blue dial. For those seeking a high-end sports watch with a tourbillon complication, paired with a discreet profile and lightweight construction, look no further.

Grand Lady Kalla

As mentioned, Vacheron Constantin has also debuted a range of ladies’ watches, but these timepieces have been a bit more mysterious than the men’s watches in the sense that not much information is disclosed, perhaps due to their high-end nature and limited production. The new ladies’ watch from the brand certainly comes in several formats, including the quintessential Égérie, but we will be highlighting something more unusual – the Grand Lady Kalla. These pieces are necklaces and bracelets filled with diamonds to such an extent that the watch dial is camouflaged within the lavish gemstone decorations. It’s a sight to behold!
