The Timex Intrepid × Dimepiece Edition Is A 90s Revival
You know that moment when something from the past comes back, and it feels like a breath of fresh air? Something that takes you straight back to a time you didn’t even know you missed until it’s right there in front of you. That’s exactly what’s happened with the Timex Intrepid × Dimepiece Edition, a watch that fuses prep, nostalgia, and some seriously cool details. And at the heart of it all is Brynn Wallner, founder of Dimepiece, who’s given this reissue of a 1990s icon a 21st-century makeover.
Downsizing the Intrepid from 46mm to a versatile 36mm
The original Timex Intrepid was introduced in 1995 when oversized dive watches were all the rage. It was chunky, bold, and undeniably cool, and it had a very specific cultural association: JFK Jr. was often spotted wearing it. If you can picture the man himself with his tousled hair, casual yet perfectly put-together wardrobe, and easy charm, it’s hard not to see the Intrepid as part of that very vibe. JFK Jr. was the epitome of the 1990s prep look and that watch was the crown jewel of his ensemble.
Brynn Wallner, the woman behind Dimepiece, was clearly paying attention. Earlier this year, she sent a photo of JFK Jr. wearing the Intrepid to Timex, suggesting they bring back the piece. The conversation took off from there, and suddenly, they were talking about a reissue with a modern twist. Timex brought the original Intrepid back into production, but Brynn wasn’t satisfied just with a re-release. She had bigger plans.
Enter the Timex Intrepid × Dimepiece Edition, a watch that takes the spirit of the 1995 Intrepid and reinvents it for today’s world. The original was a hefty 46mm, something that works for some but easily overwhelms others, so Brynn and her collaborators set out to make something more inclusive and wearable, with a smaller 36mm case.
The downsized stainless-steel case gives it that perfect balance of ruggedness and elegance, while the cream and black dial serves up an ideal contrast. But it’s the details that really make this piece stand out, starting with that INDIGLO backlight, a Timex feature that lets you check the time even in the dead of night. Activated by a pusher at 9 o’clock, it’s a subtle nod to Brynn’s signature pop of purple, which ties everything together with just the right amount of pop.
The black synthetic rubber strap is functional and stylish. Water-resistant to 100 meters and featuring a slide rule bezel, the Dimepiece Intrepid Edition isn’t just a pretty face. Brynn has often said that her brand is all about inclusivity and coolness that doesn’t need to be explained. This watch embodies that philosophy, offering a gender-neutral design that feels like it’s made for everyone.
In fact, that’s one of the things that stands out the most about Brynn’s vision. While so many watch collaborations are about “masculine” and “feminine” lines, Dimepiece is about breaking down those barriers. The Timex Intrepid × Dimepiece Edition feels like it belongs to anyone who wants it. It’s sleek but bold, classic but not retro. Basically, it just works well.
And it is not just about resurrecting a piece from the 1990s. The original Intrepid was a symbol of prep style at its peak, of nautical adventures and high-society moments. But the new edition adds layers of meaning that make it feel fresh: it’s a tribute to an era while also carrying it forward. The purple accents, the downsize to 36mm, the subtle crown placement all feel like a direct evolution of what was once a 1990s-era behemoth.
With a little help from Alan Bedwell, vintage curator and co-founder of Foundwell, Brynn and Timex have taken something nostalgic and made it relevant for today.
