The Fabulous and Fierce Oris ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition
In a much anticipated follow up to their smash hit ProPilot X Kermit Edition, Oris has announced the ProPilot X Miss Piggy Edition. The watch features a striking hot pink dial with a single lab grown, baguette cut diamond set at 12:00. The dazzling dial, reminiscent of Miss Piggy’s own fierce pink flare, is set into an all new 34mm stainless steel case.
I say anticipated, but the truth is no one knew for certain if the Kermit would get a counterpart, and if so, which might it be? The cast of lovable characters available from the Muppets are many, each with their own idiosyncratic personality perfectly suited to the collaboration. But it is only fitting that the next edition be that of Miss Piggy, the tenacious, chic, swanky swine of the Jim Henson Universe.
Where the Kermit edition featured the joyful face of Kermit the frog as a little easter egg of sorts, showing up on the date wheel on the first day of the month, Missy Piggy’s visage appears elsewhere. In this case, on the automatic rotor, which is finished in a soft lilac color. Through a small hole in the caseback, perfectly aligned, is Miss Piggy’s likeness.
In keeping with the karate-chopping fashion icon that is Miss Piggy, the new ProPilot X blends sportiness with touches of elegant flare. In lieu of the techy matte titanium of the other ProPilot Xs, this edition’s stainless steel offers a bit more shine. A combination of matte finishing along the case and center links are juxtaposed with matte center links and high polish along the rest of the bracelet, extending to the clasp.
At their core, as intense and serious as the watch world can be at times, watches are supposed to be fun. They make us smile, and in the absolute best cases, maybe even giggle. When the ProPilot X Kermit was released at Watches & Wonders 2023, the whole watch world was suddenly, delightfully reminded of that. If anything, this edition shows that both Oris and Disney are more than willing to continue to explore this collaboration.
What might be next? A blue Great Gonzo edition? A multi-colored dial for Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem? Maybe a 45mm Sweetums? Perhaps a brown Rowlf edition? We’ll just have to wait and see what Oris is able to dream up next for the Magic Store.
