The Latest Releases from Roger Dubuis focus on Incredible Tourbillons

At Watches & Wonders 2024, Roger Dubuis returns to its forte: the tourbillon. The brand has unveiled a pair of wristwatches featuring tourbillons presented in various formats – be it singular, dual, or most notably, central.

Orbis in Machina Central Monotourbillon

The standout among Roger Dubuis’s latest releases is undoubtedly the Orbis in Machina, an uncommon central tourbillon watch, a rarity in the world of tourbillon timepieces. In fact, a central tourbillon is arguably less prevalent than a multi-axis tourbillon.

What sets the Orbis in Machina apart is not only the placement of the sizable tourbillon at the center of the dial but also the watch’s design. It exudes sleekness, elegance, and a futuristic allure that is unmistakably Roger Dubuis, yet it’s not as ostentatious as many of the brand’s skeleton watches.

One of the reasons for this subtlety is undoubtedly the closed dial, concealing most of the movement (except for the central tourbillon). An attractive feature of the dial is the minute and hour indicator, unconventional in its presentation – they aren’t typical hour and minute hands but rather small indicators affixed to a rotating dial or disc, creating the illusion of orbiting around the central tourbillon.

Another highlight of the watch is the architectural elegance of the movement. The bridges bear shapes reminiscent of classical pocket watches or early hand-wound movements, yet they are executed in a distinctly modern and chic manner. The result pays homage to the past while remaining refreshingly creative and original.

Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon

If one tourbillon isn’t enough for you, there’s the Excalibur Sunrise Double Tourbillon, a signature complication of Roger Dubuis, as it stands as one of the earliest watchmakers to produce wristwatches with twin tourbillons. However, this version distinguishes itself from most double tourbillon watches on the market – of which there aren’t many – with its distinctive luxurious execution. It boasts a gem-set bezel and movement bridge adorned in a gradient of red, yellow, and orange sapphires!

Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon

Last but not least is the brand’s minimalist single-tourbillon wristwatch, the Excalibur Titanium Monotourbillon. It features a skeletonized movement with a sporty and striking architecture, and most importantly, this model comes not only with a titanium case but also a titanium bracelet. The titanium bracelet is an unusual feature for Roger Dubuis, as its catalog mainly relies on straps. It is a feature first seen in the Excalibur Monobalancier and is now slowly making its way into the brand’s catalogue.
