Introducing the Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin

An esteemed manufacture whose movements are used by many other brands, Piaget is one of watchmaking’s most distinctive icons today.

One particular head-turner is the Piaget Polo, which is inspired by Piaget’s equestrian sporting history and is Piaget’s flagship collection. Its eye-catching visage comprises a pillow-shaped dial enthroned within a round case.

When the luxury sports watch trend first began, Yves Piaget presented a future icon in 1979. The Piaget Polo’s hand-finished steel case reflects the rigors and sophistication of the sport of polo, and this case is accentuated by a sophisticated bracelet.

Piaget Polo timepieces have always been used to shine the spotlight on both the brand’s impeccable taste and its technical savoir-faire. Over the years, the Piaget Polo has seen a myriad of iterations. The one I remember most vividly is the Piaget Polo FortyFive Flyback Chronograph of 2009, which is powered by the in-house caliber 880P.

In the spirit of founder Georges-Édouard Piaget’s pursuit of technical excellence, Piaget began championing ultra-thin watchmaking in the 1950s, way before ultra-thin timepieces were in vogue. Ultra-thin watchmaking would become the maison’s trademark and the cornerstone of the Altiplano collection. It bears repeating that Piaget is a multi-time record setter for thinnest watch in the world. Most recently, the 167-component Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept of 2020 swept headlines with its 2mm-thin case. Comprising wheels as thin as 0.12mm, the Piaget Altiplano Ultimate Concept was the culmination of four years of research, development, crafting and assembly.

Watch connoisseurs will never forget the 2.35mm-thin 1200P movement, which comprised gears as thin as 0.12mm. This led to a skeletonized version of the 1200P called the 1200S, and the current 1200S1, which presents better resistance to magnetic fields.

Verdant season

The Piaget Polo’s most recent outings are inspired by the flora that surrounds Piaget’s manufacture in La Côte-aux-Fées. La Côte-aux-Fées is, of course, the Swiss municipality where Georges-Édouard Piaget opened a watchmaking workshop in his family farm in 1874, at the tender age of 19.

2022’s Piaget Polo Date and Piaget Polo Skeleton watches might have captured your attention. The new green Polo timepieces arrive in different shades of green, inspired by precious stones like emerald, jade, jasper and malachite.

The Piaget Polo Date comprises a rose gold case that houses the 1110P self-winding manufacture mechanical movement, with 50 hours of power reserve and the Piaget coat of arms engraved on its slate gray oscillating weight.

The Piaget Polo Skeleton houses the 1200S1 skeleton self-winding manufacture caliber in green, within a stainless steel case.

Today, Piaget presents a new ultra-thin timepiece that is just 8.65mm thin, driven by a 4mm-thin movement, the Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin. Intricate luminescent details showcase the minutes, hours, day, date, month and the phase of the moon. Piaget, the manufacturer of exquisite, high-precision movements, now presents a perpetual calendar within its iconic Polo case — a concise representation of Piaget’s brand of haute horlogerie and finesse with daily high-end luxury.

This stellar timepiece shines the spotlight on both Piaget’s proprietary ultra-thin technology and the maison’s prowess with complicated watchmaking.

The perpetual calendar, which was invented in 1762 and displays important aspects of the day and time while taking into account leap years, is one of the most difficult complications to master.

The 4mm-thin 1255P in-house caliber powers this captivating timepiece, which is housed within an 8.65mm-thin steel case that is 42mm in diameter. This lithe case is secured to the wrist by an improved bracelet design that sports the maison’s signature godron pattern, and alternating polished and satin brushed finishing.
