Nomos Glashütte Tetra Petit FourBy Tracey Llewellyn
Nomos came out bang on trend at this year’s Baselworld with a spring quartet of Tetra models in delicious, delicate pastel shades. Aptly named the Petit Four series, the familiar 29.5mm square dials come in gorgeous shades of rose, aqua, mint and blush, or to give them their official names: Pearl, Azure, Matcha and Grenadine.
Housed in the Tetra – one of two Nomos models that does not have a round case – this shaped watch is definitely not for the faint-hearted, but rather for those who like to make a style statement. Incredibly thin at 6.5mm high, the double lugs are delicate to a degree that feminises this otherwise masculine and angular square shape. Twin lugs also allow for the strap to be narrower (lug width 18mm) while ensuring a perfect balance in terms of dimensions.
The watches are powered by the in-house Alpha calibre, hand-made with precision and craftsmanship in the heart of German watchmaking, Glashütte. Adjusted in six positions, the Alpha is decorated with traditional Glashütte striping, tempered blue screws and Nomos perlage and this beautifully finished, hand-wound movement can be seen ticking away in two of the four new pieces thanks to a sapphire crystal caseback. The baby blue and green version feature stainless-steel backs that can be engraved with a personal message.
Never a brand to shy away from experimentation with colour, Nomos’s rainbow shades are eagerly anticipated by the market and sell out quickly. This time the shades are muted and feature contrasting hues for the signature modern, sans serif Arabic numerals and small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock plus flashes of silver or gold on their hands. The perfect accompanying timepiece for the (hopefully) bright days of summer to come, the hardest choice will be in deciding which sweet treat to pick to satisfy your craving.
