The Low-Down
The Master Control Chronograph Calendar is a lot of watch, make no mistake. Not only does the Calibre 759-powered watch pack a strong chronograph-complete calendar punch, but it does ios in a well-proportioned 40mm case, defined by the clean lines and classic aesthetic of the Master Control line. While the earlier steel model looked right at home on a novonappa strap, this dark take on the design is best suited to the alligator strap. Jaeger-LeCoultre has done great work with this dial design. The black sunray-brushed finish looks almost velveteen in texture, contrasting perfectly with the gold hardware and bright red dial highlights.
IMHO
Aside from red, black and gold being a generally excellent color combination, this new version evokes, in a really lovely way, the greatest of mid-century watch design, in particular some of the more iconic models from the brand’s own catalogue like the Memovox and the Futurematic. And while those historical design inspirations are readily apparent if you’re looking for them, the overall presentation of the Master Control Chronograph Calendar feels contemporary.
