IWC Weekend Takeover of Miami Grand Prix

Share

If you were in Miami this past weekend, or watched Formula One, you couldn’t help but notice the presence of IWC branding in all popular places in the vibrant city.

Event though Verstappen took the top spot in the race and Russell and Hamilton placed fifth and sixth respectively, the stage belonged to the IWC TOP GUN timepieces. In fact, Hamilton addressed the FIA’s tightening up on the ban relating to wearing jewelry while racing in a news conference by wearing not two but three TOP GUN watches. That’s making a statement!

The weekend started with IWC Big Pilot Challenge celebrity golf tournament at Miami Beach Golf Club. Team ‘Mojave Desert’ brought together two of IWC’s most accomplished brand ambassadors: seven-time American Football World Champion Tom Brady and seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton. The other team ‘Lake Tahoe’ comprised retired American Football running back, Marcus Allen, and Dibia DREAM founder and CEO Brandon Okpalobi.

The watches worn by the players and some personal items from the players will be auctioned online by the international auction house Bonhams. Among the timepieces are novelties from IWC’s recently launched “Colors of TOP GUN” collection in crisp white and sand-colored ceramic. Bidding ends on Wednesday, May 11, at 11 am ET. The auction proceeds will benefit Laureus Sport for Good foundation to expand its critical impact on youth in communities in Miami, Florida.

The following day was the big announcement at the Miami Grand Prix racetrack for the launch of official Mercedes-AMG Petronas team Pilot’s watch. The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 in the team’s signature Petronas green color. All 60 core members of the team including designers, aerodynamicists, race engineers, strategists and mechanics wore the watch during the race.

During the press conference, Toto Wolff, Team Principal & CEO of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team stated, “We’re delighted to unveil the first official team watch we’ve developed with IWC. It underscores the spirit of unity and the sense of belonging within our team and is a testament to the relationship we have built with IWC over the last decade. I am looking forward to seeing the watch being worn by members of the team trackside in Miami this weekend.”

And Christoph Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC, commented, “Both fine watchmaking and racing are all about precision, craftsmanship and performance engineering. But it’s the human factor – the passion the love and the dedication that make all the difference between good and great. This notion perfectly describes our long-standing partnership with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team and we are celebrating this partnership with the launch of the new team watch in Miami.”

The Edition “Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport” is available to the public for purchase exclusively online at IWC.com.
