In 2000, Natalie Massenet, an American-born former fashion journalist with Women’s Wear Daily and Tatler, founded Net-a-Porter as a concept of a magazine in website format where users could ‘click’ to buy while trying to source products online for a fashion shoot.
Chris Grainger-Herr, CEO of IWC, elaborates “As well as demonstrating their excellent taste with a carefully chosen wardrobe, discerning men punctuate their innate sense of style with a serious mechanical wristwatch. The partnership between Mr Porter and IWC Schaffhausen is so successful because we can offer both in one place. Everyone at IWC extends our warmest congratulations to our partner on its 10th anniversary and are looking forward to our continued collaboration.”
IWC recently released the new Pilot Chronograph in blue and green dial in the new 41mm case during the Watches & Wonders event in April. Mr Porter edition is based on this 41mm case, but sets it apart from other two chronographs. This limited edition offers a sartorial aesthetic with black dial in a bronze case with gold-tone Arabic numerals and Alcantara strap. It is also interesting that IWC does not offer black dial in 41mm case, so this is a unique offering. The warm tones of bronze case and golden numerals makes this watch a rakish Fliegerchronograph.
The mechanical details remain the same – the 69385 Caliber offers a column-wheel chronograph for hours, minutes and seconds, a date and day display, and small hacking seconds for precision time setting. The bronze 41 mm case has a screw-in crown for a 10-bar water resistance. To avoid bronze material exposure to the skin, a titanium case back is employed.
