Introducing the MB&F LM FlyingT Malachite

Share

Back in late 2019, when we announced the MB&F Legacy Machine FlyingT as the winner of the  Revolution Awards Ultimate Glamour category, the team printed the following words in the orize announcement: “When the genteel Mr. Büsser first told us that the FlyingT, the brand’s first female-oriented Legacy Machine timepiece, had been developed without any input from the fairer sex, we were admittedly a little skeptical of the outcome, or at least, how that sounded.

“But when you think about the fashion industry, some of the world’s best known haute couturiers are renowned gents of their time, both then and now, so perhaps when it comes to creativity and design, gender matters less than the value of their input. Which in the case of the FlyingT, is present in ample volumes.” This rings as true today, as it did back in 2019, because the strength in the design of the LM FlyingT has little to do with the gender it was inspired for, and more to do with the strength of character of the individuals it was inspired by.

This can be doubled up also by the fact that in 2019 when the watch was announced at Baselworld, a fair number of men too enquired about the watch. No not for their female significant others, rather for themselves.

Since then the watch has, of course, seen several iterations, the last of which was one with a breathtaking lapis lazuli dial. Today, MB&F adds to these ranks their latest reimagining of the LM FlyingT, now with a new dial plate in vivid green malachite.

In brief, malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral which forms as an opaque green crystalline structure. Over the course of time since its discovery, the material has been mined in localities including Congo, Zambia, Mexico, Australia, with the largest deposit recorded in the Urals region, Russia. And since it has been mined it’s been used by mankind as a mineral pigment in green paints since antiquity, decorative vase, ornamental stone, and gemstone.

At long last now, MB&F have added the material to their fold to dress the LM FlyingT Malachite, featuring a dial plate and subdial in the vibrant green gemstone, cased in an 18k white gold case set ablaze with diamonds.
