Introducing the Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT

The Low-Down

Bell & Ross’ first offering for a multi-time zone instrument was presented in 2007 with the BR 03‑51 GMT Titanium. That watch presented the wearer with the possibility for tracking two time zones with the primary set of time indicators and a sub dial at 6 o’clock for the a second time zone and a large date display, at 12 o’clock.

Of course, the contemporary expectations for a GMT watch requires that the watch should present all of the necessary time indications off of its central pinion, it should have a rotating 24-hour bezel and it should have the capability of having its GMT hand, independently adjusted.

2009 – The BR 01-93 GMT

2016 – The BR 03-93 GMT

2018 – The BR V2-93 GMT

In serving this intention, Bell & Ross launched the BR 01-93 GMT in 2009, which had most of the functional requirements but missed out on the rotating bezel. Also, the watch was an intense 46mm piece.

The BR 03-93 GMT stepped out to the plate next, in 2016, with a 42mm case, functions in place but again without the rotating bezel. It was in 2018 that all of the functions and the rotating bezel, were brought into a Bell & Ross GMT timepiece with the handsome, BR V2-93. The diehard Bell & Ross collector would have to wait until 2021 when with the latest version of BR 03-93 GMT that the brand has now met all of the contemporary expectations for a GMT timepiece in their signature square case.

IMHO

The 2021, Bell & Ross BR 03-93 GMT, the ref. BR0393-BL-ST/SCA to be precise, is in the 42mm form factor of the BR 03 case. Forged in stainless steel, the case is fitted with a bi-directional rotating bezel with a red and black anodised aluminium insert.

The movement for the watch is the BR-CAL.303, found in the BR V2-93 and the launch version of the BR 03-93 GMT. Built off the ETA 2893-2, the movement has a quick set function that allows for the GMT hand to be set independently of the primary hour hand. Of course, what sets the BR0393-BL-ST/SCA apart is that red and black aluminium insert that’s bound to turn some heads for all the wrong, and right reasons.
