Glashutte Original Sixties and Sixties Chronograph Annual Edition 2020

Through its “annual editions”, Glashutte Original lets its hair down while offering collectors a channel into the wilder side of watch collecting without taking a foot off the path of authentic watchmaking. It does this by taking its vintage-inspired Sixties watches – sober, sound timepieces with just a touch of flourish in the loopy typography of its hour numerals – and giving them truly dramatic dial makeovers, courtesy of its in-house dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany.

So far, beyond the customary silver, black and blue dials, stunners have included a fiery ripe orange, as well as graduated green, brown and grey in gorgeous textures. For 2020, Glashutte Original has released two watches, a three-hand and a chronograph, in a very elegant and rather frosty blue-grey that the company calls “glacier blue”.

According to Glashutte Original, dial blanks are first given a sunray finish before being pressed into their characteristic domed shape, then given a galvanic nickel coating. Dark blue lacquer is first sprayed to darken the dial fringe for the dégradé effect, this is then followed by another coat of glacier blue lacquer applied over the entire dial. In this way, each dial is unique, and the effect sealed by baking the dial in an oven.

Domed sapphire crystal and curved hands complete the vintage appeal, and the watch is matched with brown-grey nubuck calfskin straps with contrast stitching.

Both models are available for a limited time only from Glashütte Original boutiques and selected authorised dealers worldwide.
