Best Design 2022: Trilobe Une Folle Journée

Share

It has been a phenomenal year for the watch world. To round off 2022, we are celebrating the hits, the wonders, the visionaries and all the people in watchmaking who have made it so memorable in our annual Revolution Awards and Power Lists.

When people ask me why I love Trilobe’s Une Folle Journée, I compare it with Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue or Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. It is a seminal work that defines its creator’s singularity, announcing an all-new voice that is wonderfully and devastatingly unique. The timepiece frees Gautier Massonneau’s circular disks from the two-dimensional confines of the dial and has them hovering like miniature spacecraft above a baseplate and under a stunning domed sapphire. However, unlike many of the more avant-gardist timepieces out there, Massonneau’s watch is profoundly wearable and exudes an elegance that is the perfect reflection of the man himself.

Trilobe’s A Folle Journée —a crazy day— is available in blue or black, and both come with the titanium 40.5mm case

Given the very apparent aesthetic, Trilobe went the extra mile to delicately finish the movement’s parts. The light time rings themselves are made in a titanium-aluminium-vanadium alloy that requires an extra effort to achieve its final look

TrilobeThe self-winding X-Centric³ calibre is of the micro-rotor variety, good to power up the timepiece for a maximum of 48 hours. Une Folle Journée
