Atelier Wen and Massena Lab Team Up for the Inflection Shuò

Atelier Wen is on something of a roll this year, following up their dramatic Ancestra releases and the anticipated Perception V3 with the Inflection Shuò, a limited edition version of their most prestigious watch, made in collaboration with the always tasteful Massena Lab.

While at first glance the Inflection has a lot of similarities with the Perception, in reality they’re two quite different beasts — the Inflection has a sleeker profile, and — more significantly — it’s a full tantalum watch. Tantalum is perhaps one of the rarest case materials in watches; Audemars Piguet and Omega have dabbled with it in the past, but it’s far from common. And that’s because the heavy and dense metal is exceptionally hard to work with. But if you’ve ever had the pleasure of holding an Atelier Wen Inflection, you’ll know it’s worth the effort. Inside the heavy metal case is a customised Girard-Perregaux GP03300 calibre, a solid performer and a nice change from the usual suspects at this price point.

That said, the case and calibre are the base ingredients in a very tasty recipe. It’s the dial that’s the proverbial icing on the cake. It’s on the dial that we see the shared input between Atelier Wen’s design team and Massena Lab — in a very literal way, and not just because the dial is co-signed by the two parties.

First, the dial is solid gold, offered in either solid 18K white gold or a rose gold variant. 40 examples are being made in rose gold, and only 10 in white — with the latter only being offered to existing customers. Atelier Wen has made the most of the gold dial, offering a California dial with a twist. The upper numerals are hand-engraved Arabic indices in Massena Lab’s typeface, while the bottom of the dial shows Chinese characters commissioned by Atelier Wen. These numerals, hand-engraved by Coralie Mercier, neatly symbolise the intersection of east and west that is entirely on brand for Atelier Wen, and nicely framed by a radially brushed chapter ring. On either side of this ring is some very fine hand tremblage, accented by the outermost dial’s huiwan pattern, an Atelier Wen hallmark and a classic Chinese decorative motif. In contrast to the dial’s complexity (in both technique and design), the hands are simplicity itself. Hand-blued leaf-shaped hands lend a touch of elegance to the Inflection Shuò.

With every release, Atelier Wen’s approach grows more confident and sophisticated. The Inflection is already a remarkable offering from a younger brand, and this partnership with Massena Lab turns an already strong watch into one of the coolest releases of 2026.
