A. Lange & Söhne Brings Challenging Chronographs to Singapore

The ION Orchard exhibition pairs Lange’s chronograph history with classic motoring and live demonstrations by artisans from Glashütte.

For anyone who has ever spent a little too long in front of the Lange boutique looking at their chronographs, there’s no better time to make a stop at Singapore’s ION Orchard this October. A. Lange & Söhne’s “Challenging Chronographs” exhibition will occupy two different spaces in the Level 1 Atrium of the mall from 18 to 30 October 2026. The exhibition will bring the Glashütte manufacture’s expertise in measuring elapsed time to Singapore, along with a look at its ties to the world of classic cars.

The automotive connection has actually been running for some time now. Lange has partnered with Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como since 2012 – and 2026 marks the partnership’s 15th year. Each year, the owner of the “Best of Show” winner receives a unique, hand-engraved timepiece from the brand. The manufacture has also been a supporter of the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace since 2018, and the Audrain Newport Concours d’Elegance in the United States.

The “Challenging Chronographs” exhibition in Singapore draws from this connection, rewarding a closer look at Lange’s chronographs – which already give visitors plenty to get into on their own.

The brand’s modern chronograph story began in 1999 with the Datograph, which introduced its first chronograph movement following the manufacture’s revival. Its outsize date, flyback function and precise jumping minute counter made quite an impression. The flyback lets the wearer reset and restart the chronograph with a single press, while the minute counter advances exactly as the chronograph seconds hand makes a full revolution.

Lange went further with the Double Split in 2004, the world’s first mechanical chronograph with a double rattrapante mechanism. Traditional rattrapante (or split-seconds) chronographs usually feature just two superimposed central seconds hands. The Double Split had two pairs of hands, one for seconds and the other for minutes, and allowed for comparative timings to go up from 60 seconds to 30 minutes. The Triple Split followed in 2018, adding a split hour counter that brings the comparative measurement all the way to 12 hours. That’s a lot of timing flexibility for a mechanical object housed in a wristwatch.

For visitors, the live demonstrations held at the exhibition are a particularly good reason to linger. A master watchmaker and master engraver from Lange’s manufacture in Glashütte will be on hand throughout the pop-up as well. The engraving demonstrations will explore details such as the floral patterns and scrollwork on balance cocks, as well as the intricate decorative motifs on the casebacks.

“Challenging Chronographs” runs daily from 10am to 9pm at ION Orchard’s Level 1 Atrium, from 18 to 30 October 2026. Guided tours and live demonstrations are available by appointment. For more information, visit this website.
