A little over a month on from the launch of the Traditionnelle Complete Calendar in White Gold, the masion is now introducing the watch in 18K 5N pink gold and 18K white gold, with a fresh new openworked sapphire dial.

These dials are formed by having assembled three parts. First you have the central sapphire crystal portion of the dial that is fitted with the 18K gold hour-markers. Next you have the slate grey opaline flange, onto which the dates are listed. Lastly, a slate grey guilloche upper section is added under the central sapphire dial, to help frame the date and month wheels.

Interestingly, where the date and month apertures on the earlier existing Traditionnelle Complete Calendar watches were towards the dial’s edges (at 9 and 3 o’clock) on the Openface, these displays have been centralised by adding rectangular white backings just underneath the applied Calatrava cross and printed “Vacheron Constantin”.

The watch still remains at its 41mm diameter, in the familiar stepped case. Thereafter, The movement powering the watch remains the Calibre 2460 QCL. The movement has, however, been given an anthracite NAC treatment on the mainplate and bridges, which particularly on the dial side, creates for better legality when trying to read from the openworked sapphire dial.

The Calibre 2460 QCL enables the complete calendar complication as well as the precision moon phase that’s said to require only one correction every 122 years. And, of course, much like all of Vacheron Constantin’s creations, this too bears the revered Poinçon de Genève.

IMHO

Where previous versions of the Traditionnelle Complete Calendar from the Excellence Platine collection, as well as the ones in white gold and pink gold were rather classically refined executions, the Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface is decidedly contemporary looking timepiece that offers up a window into its inner workings. No doubt, it will prove itself to be the perfect combination of qualities for anyone who can appreciate an old soul at heart that’s effortlessly able to blend into the 21st century world.
