If you were paying any attention at all this year, you couldn’t have missed our coverage of Urwerk’s Project AMC. Just this month, the project earned a Revolution Award for “Revolutionary Watch of the Year,” in fact.

So, it was with interest that we saw that Urwerk debuted the very first Project AMC at Westime Miami. This limited edition, $2 million+ atomic clock is an amazing piece of equipment – it mechanically winds, sets and regulates the Urwerk watch it is paired with.

To celebrate the first completed AMC, Westime held a party in its Miami store during Art Basel Miami. Both Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, founders of Urwerk, were there to host the event.

“This was the very first time we were presenting the final AMC project with its mechanical watch and its atomic time reference ‘pairing’ and fully ‘connected,’” says Baumgartner in an exclusive interview with Revolution.Watch. “We wanted to work with our long-time partner and representative in the United States, Westime. This project reflects both our technical and artistic visions. Technical, as we have spent eight years completing this one-of-a-kind Time Machine; and artistic, as this whole project can be interpreted as a reflection of time itself. So, it is no coincidence the unveiling took place during Miami Art Basel. It had to be public. We wanted to invite people to discover this ‘monster’ of technology but also grasp the beauty and fascination behind two machines being able to talk to each other and exchange information by touching one another, mechanically.”

The significance of this moment wasn’t lost on Greg Simonian, president of Westime. “Urwerk’s AMC is a monumental achievement,” Simonian says. “Only three will ever be produced, and all will be sold exclusively in the Americas. Westime takes great pride in being the very first host of this beast! Miami is only the beginning.”
