URWERK’s UR-150 needs little introduction. Launched in 2024 in two iterations, Scorpion Titan and Scorpion Dark, it continues Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei’s exploration of the satellite hours complication that has become an URWERK signature. The Scorpion is an update and reinvention with quite literally a lightning twist.

A large open-worked hand frames the prevailing hour on one of three-hour satellites rotating in a central flying carousel, while its tip points to the minute on the 240º track. Earlier URWERKs typically bear a 120º minute arc in comparison.  At the 60-minute mark, it all goes off in a kinetic frenzy as the satellite hours spin on their axes and the retrograde hand snaps back to zero to start a new trek for the hour — all in just 1/100^th of a second.

To achieve all of that, URWERK designed a new satellite complication based on a cam and rack system instead of their conventional model that relied on Maltese crosses. The UR-150 also inherits URWERK’s twin-turbine automatic winding system first seen in 2008’s UR-202, where twin caseback turbines are used to regulate and cushion the automatic rotor, alongside a flywheel speed governor to control the almost instantaneous retrograde display.

The duo released a stunning limited edition in blue called Blue Scorpion in 2025, complete with blue ALD-treated display and green Super-LumiNova accents.

This latest edition retains all the sting and spectacle of its predecessors, from the organic curved profile to the dynamic display of time, lit by the glow of yellow gold. That gives it a distinctly flashier character, one that’s far more in your face than the stealthy machine aesthetics of earlier examples. Flip the watch over to get the full impact of the glitter and shine — in the rotor, sand-blasted and circular-grained, with 3N gold PVD coating and the turbine bridge.

The front of the watch, in contrast, is far more subtle, not that a watch with hulky dimensions of 42.5mm wide, 51mm long and 14.8mm thick can ever be called such. Still, the combination of shimmering gold, white Super-LumiNova hand painted on the markers and counterweight, and sleek black textured with angles and contours everywhere else on the front is nuanced and strikes a well-considered balance.
