Introducing the Trilobe Une Folle Journée Diamant and Dune

Share

Founded just four years ago in 2019, Trilobe is a budding independent watchmaker that specialises in creative expressions of time offered at relatively accessible prices. At the biggest annual watch fair, Watches & Wonders 2023, the brand is naturally showcasing its crown jewel, the multidimensional Une Folle Journée, which comes in a range of new variations. Some of the latest introductions include high-jewellery on all of the rotating time discs, creating a stunning light show.

The highlight of the new lineup is undoubtedly the Une Folle Journée Diamant, a compact 40.5mm timepiece that combines a variety of desirable qualities: exotic expression of time, exposed mechanics, and extravagant high jewellery. The Diamant comes in two variants, one with a sleek grey dial paired with a platinum case, and the other with a warm “salmon” dial paired with a rose gold case.

While diamond-encrusted bezels, dials, and cases are not uncommon in luxury watches, the Une Folle Journée takes it up a notch with its diamond-covered “hands.” Though technically not traditional watch hands, the three rotating rings create a dazzling light show as they move, with the innermost ring completing one circle per minute.

To read the time on this watch, one simply needs to follow the rings as they pass a red arrow at the six o’clock position. The outermost ring indicates the hours, followed by the minutes and seconds on the middle and innermost rings, respectively.

Here the hour ring is hand-painted with Arabic numerals, but the minute and second rings are not marked, so they don’t contribute to time-telling. It’s a curious feature, but perhaps acceptable, given that the Une Folle Journée aims to be creative and exotic. This design choice is quirky and brings to mind the intriguing Haldimann H8, which has only a tourbillon on the dial with no hands at all.

For eagle-eyed collectors who may have noticed the new “salmon” dial, this is indeed the first time Trilobe has incorporated this classical yet fashionable colorway into its top-of-the-line Une Folle Journée watches. But for those who prefer a more understated look without jewellery, the brand has also introduced two new Une Folle Journée Dune with “salmon” dials, available in either titanium or rose gold.

While the rose gold model is appealing with its pink-on-pink palette, the titanium model is notable for its striking colour contrast between the dark grey rings and the “salmon” plate underneath. Combined with a greyish titanium case, the resulting watch presents a harmonious yet striking combination of colours, giving it an eye-catching yet refined appearance.
