The Squale Master Titanium Collection Expands with Teal and Blue Dials

Proof that serious dive watches don’t always have to have black dials.

Squale’s Master collection — a designation reserved for its deepest of divers — was originally conceived in the 1960s, when the first Master cases were created to handle 100 atmospheres of pressure — equivalent to 1000 metres in depth. In 2024, Squale gave this over-engineered Master collection a permanent spot in the roster, and today, they’ve expanded the line with two vibrant new dials in bright blue and vibrant teal, serving as more playful companion pieces to the classic black dial.

Before we get to dial, let’s talk about the remarkable case of the Master collection. Modern construction has allowed Squale to up the stakes even more with a 1200-meter water-resistant case made from grade 5 titanium, meaning that the hefty 42mm case won’t be serving as an additional dive weight on your wrist. This level of depth rating means that the watch is equipped with a helium escape valve and a 4mm thick sapphire crystal.

The particular choice of colours Squale has opted for is inspired by the brand’s partnership with Italian freediver Vincenzo Ferri, whose personal best is a frankly astonishing 98 meters in the constant weight bi-fins category, which still stands as the Italian national record. The colours that a diver like Ferri would see as he descends and ascends (without oxygen, remember) to these sorts of depths. The blue dial represents the expanse of the ‘grand bleu’ of the ocean depths, while on the return journey, his vision would be filled with sunlight, filtered through the water, creating an ever-shifting teal-like great blue that Squale has effectively recreated on the second of these two watches.

It isn’t just the colours of these dials that are new either; there is a dynamic, wave-like design that enriches the colour and adds an appealing three-dimensional effect to these deep-divers dials. As you would expect from a serious dive watch, the luminous material used is up to the task, and in blue or green depending on the model, with white luminous material for the bezel pip and seconds hand — for optimal legibility in the darkest of conditions. The bezel insert is ceramic, and the calibre is the proven Sellita SW 200-1, in the top ‘Elaboré’ grade.

The final standout of this pair of new watches is the new strap. While at a passing glance it looks like leather, this would be an odd choice on a dive watch. In fact, the strap is a high-quality Italian rubber, embossed with an alligator-scale pattern, with a pleasing dark grey contrasting stitch. And while these aren’t details that you’ll necessarily appreciate at depth, but it’s a lovely touch for topside wear.
