Baume & Mercier’s Clifton line never really needs to make much noise. Since its introduction in 2013, the classically styled collection has occupied a quietly confident position within the brand’s catalog, as a handsome Swiss-made watch shaped by elegant proportions and clean aesthetics associated with mid-century design.

The Clifton’s identity became considerably stronger in 2018 with the arrival of the Baumatic movement, giving the line a mechanical and more technical proposition to match its good looks. Packed with a five-day power reserve and magnetic field resistance, the manufacture’s caliber further established the Clifton as a compelling expression of Baume & Mercier’s approach to contemporary Swiss watchmaking.

Now in 2026, Baume & Mercier have decided to increase the visual impact of the Clifton with two new limited editions. The new Clifton Baumatic 39mm (Ref. M0A10870) and Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar 40mm (Ref. M0A10872) pair stainless steel cases with gorgeous ice-blue guilloché-patterned dials and, of course, the self-winding Baumatic movements.

From The 1950s to The Baumatic Era

Baume & Mercier debuted the Clifton in 2013 as its interpretation of the modern gentleman’s watch. Mainly drawing inspiration from the dress wear and the attitude of the 1950s, the watch featured round cases, reserved dials and vintage-influenced details such as a domed crystal, sunburst dials and dauphine hands — balancing formality with versatility for a quintessential everyday watch.

2013: The Baume & Mercier Clifton 1830

In 2018, the Clifton Baumatic introduced the brand’s first Baumatic caliber. The original movement offered a standout 120 hours of power reserve, operated at 4Hz and had a 1,500 gauss resistance. These were meaningful specs for the watch’s technical appeal. The Clifton already had the looks; now it had the mechanical credibility to compete with watches well above its price point.

Then in 2025, Baume & Mercier revisited the line’s design with an overhaul that now places it in a more compact 39mm case, with a slimmer crown and a three-row bracelet. The dial architecture was also further refined with elongated trapezoidal indexes, alpha-shaped hands, an Arabic 12 o’clock numeral and a central crosshair.

The Ice-Blue Clifton Baumatic 39mm

Of the two new ice-blue watches introduced in 2026, the Clifton Baumatic 39mm offers the clearest view of the new dial treatment. With its clean layout, the display allows the stamped guilloché pattern to spread across almost the entire surface, shifting and playing with its appearance as light moves over its geometric texture.

It certainly feels new and has a notably different character from the Clifton’s usual grained and gradient lacquered dial, which for the most part, did suit the line’s more understated personality. But the new pattern brings considerably more depth and movement, with the ice-blue color being a brilliant choice to keep the effect elegant instead of overly decorative.

Other than this, we’re looking at the familiar characteristics of the 2025 redesign: a black crosshair at the center, snailed minute track, rhodium-plated trapezoidal indexes, alpha hour and minute hands, and a singular 12 o’clock in Arabic numeral. The date also appears at the 6 o’clock position using a similar ice-blue-toned disk. On the outside, the polished and satin-finished stainless steel case also matches the rest of the 2025 collection, measuring 39mm across and 11.2mm thick, with a domed sapphire crystal treated with antireflective coating on both sides. It comes with a three-row stainless steel bracelet, combining polished and satin-finished surfaces, along with a much appreciated interchangeable bar system for strap versatility.

Mechanically, the watch is rocking the BM13-1975A Baumatic caliber, providing hours, minutes, central seconds and date, with its signature 120-hour power reserve. The movement is also visible through its sapphire caseback, showing off bridges finished with circular graining, a sandblasted plate accented with snailed decoration, and the oscillating rotor complete with Côtes de Genève and Baume & Mercier engravings.

The Return of The Clifton Perpetual Calendar

On the other hand, we have the Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar (Ref. M0A10872) in ice blue. It has a new form factor, now at 40mm for this complication from the previous 42mm, and brings the Baumatic-powered Clifton Perpetual Calendar into stainless steel.

Baume & Mercier first presented the Clifton Perpetual Calendar in late 2016 with the Ref. M0A10306 — housed in a 42mm red gold case powered by the Vaucher 5401 micro-rotor base movement paired with a Dubois-Dépraz 5100 perpetual calendar module.

The Clifton Baumatic Perpetual Calendar followed in 2019 with the Ref. M0A10470, housed in the same 42mm red gold case, but this time with the BM13-1975AC1 Baumatic movement. It was an absolute hit and lauded for having a relatively accessible price, especially with its precious metal case and competitive perpetual calendar movement.

Baume & Mercier subsequently updated the model in 2020 as the visually similar Ref. M0A10583, powered by the BM13-1975AC2. Until now, however, the Baumatic Perpetual Calendar had remained available only in a 42mm precious metal format.

Now with the new Ref. M0A10872, the limited edition reference is housed in a polished and satin-finished stainless steel case with new dimensions: 40mm in diameter, reducing the size by two millimeters compared with its immediate predecessors. The smaller diameter makes the watch more accommodating on a wider range of wrists.

The dial presents the day, date, month, leap-year cycle and phases of the moon, with the different lengths of the month and leap years all accounted for automatically. Provided the watch remains continuously running with the correct time and date, the calendar will require no manual correction until 2100, when the Gregorian calendar omits a leap year.

Despite the great amount of information on the dial, the ice-blue guilloché pattern remains highly visible and classy with the help of snailed calendar subdials that create separation for the indications without resorting to strong contrasts.

Rhodium-plated alpha hands and elongated indexes keep it visually aligned with the simpler automatic three-handers, while Arabic numerals at 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock improve legibility despite the perpetual calendar’s inherent complexity.

There are also small accents around the dial that keep the design from feeling too uniform. These include a red pointer that identifies the leap-year cycle as well as the moonphase display set against a night blue, polished rhodium-plated disk.

Power comes from the BM13-1975AC2, similar to the one found in the Ref. M0A10583, with the full 120-hour power reserve. The movement’s presentation closely follows that of the 39mm automatic. Circular-grained bridges sit above a sandblasted and snailed plate, while the open-worked rotor is decorated with Côtes de Genève, further snailing and Baume & Mercier-specific engravings.

The watch is paired with an interchangeable blue alligator strap featuring square scales and tone-on-tone stitching, secured by a stainless steel pin buckle. Like the automatic model, it offers 50 meters of water resistance.
