Today Richard Mille introduced its first women’s sports watch, the RM 07-04 Automatic Sport. To celebrate the release, Richard Mille asked six inspiring and influential athletes – racing drivers Aurora Straus and Margot Laffite, golfer Nelly Korda, Nafi Thiam, highjumper Yuliya Levchenko and skier/snowboarder Ester Ledecká – to get involved by sharing their experiences, to develop and help define the key characteristics of this watch and each have their own unique colour way.

The watch was three years in the making and weighs a feather-light 36g (including the Velcro strap) and is guaranteed resistance to up to 5000 g’s. Available in six different colour ways, the watch houses the CRMA8 calibre, a new in-house automatic movement and the smallest automatic movement ever from the maison, with hours, minutes and a function selector.

Like a car’s gear box, the function selector allows the user to choose between the neutral (N), winding (W) or time setting (H) positions via a simple button press. According to Technical Director for Movements, “We had to resolve a threefold technical challenge: extreme skeletonisation, integration of the case with the movement and inclusion of an inverted function selector.” The press button allows a simple switch between each mode, as indicated by a small hand at five o’clock on the dial and completely eliminates all pressure on the winding stem.

Far from being just a high-profile wrist on which to place its watches, Richard Mille has always worked with its ambassadors and they are at the heart of developments that seek to continually roll back the limits of the feasible. Explains Cécile Guenat, Creative and Development Director at Richard Mille: “We did not take a minimalist approach in this design, we chose an airy movement that revealed its complexity at first glance. Offering a women’s skeleton sports watch is a gamble that few have dared to take. This collection is as much about aesthetics as it is about technicity.”

The RM07-04 is offered in six colours and two case materials; Quartz TPT for five watches and Carbon TPT for one watch. The latter material is presented in black and the Quartz TPT colours are creamy white, mauve, salmon, green and dark blue. Each watch features a contrasting rubber-clad winding crown and pusher. Additionally, pops of colour can be seen on the flange, hand tips and hours – all part of the Richard Mille signature.
