Revolution Awards 2025: Rising Star — Fam Al Hut

They are young, independent and unequivocally one of, if not the brightest, stars in the watch world today. Meet Fam Al Hut, the winner of our Rising Star Award.

The one-year-old Chinese brand was founded by Chongqing natives Lukas Young and Xinyan Dai, both young entrepreneurs with a shared love for watches. Their debut piece, the Möbius Mark 1, packs in plenty of horological firepower within what is a relatively compact space — and within such a short time.

From the get-go, Fam Al Hut’s Möbius Mark 1 stands out. Its pill-shaped case eschews conventional luxury watch aesthetics and measures just 42.2mm by 24.3mm, with a height of 12.9mm — considerably modest proportions given everything that is going on, which is plenty. A bi-axis tourbillon sits at 12 o’clock, rotating at 60 seconds on one axis and 90 seconds on the other, putting on a dynamic spectacle that’s clearly showcased via the bubble-shaped sapphire crystal over it. That stands as the watch’s thickest point at 17.4mm. The lower half of the dial, meanwhile, is devoted to the twin retrograde indications — minute and jumping hour. The Möbius Mark 1 is powered by the in-house manual winding M-01T, which runs at 3Hz frequency with 50 hours of power reserve.

The complication stack is clearly ambitious; the design, carefully thought out; and the execution, immaculate. On the wrist, it wears well on both genders, making it effortlessly androgynous. So with all that it had going, it was no surprise that the Möbius Mark 1 was awarded the Audacity Prize by the 2025 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève for its non-conformist approach to watchmaking. Fam Al Hut followed it up with their second release, which won this year’s Dubai Watch Week × Grail Watch competition. Like its predecessor, the Mark 0 Machina Solis, which means “mechanical sundial,” balks at the run-of-the-mill. Instead of a wristwatch, Mark 0 is a pocket watch or a necklace, depending on your preference. It has two dials, tracking solar time on the front and sidereal time on the back, the latter via a mesmerizing star chart that shows the constellations in the night sky.

Where Möbius Mark 1 had silenced critics with its impressive and original concept, Mark 0 reaffirms Fam Al Hut as a unique, original voice in watchmaking. The fact that the brand sits outside traditional Western watchmaking circles is a refreshing bonus, and indeed, feeds the growing diversity in the horological conversation. In this, Fam Al Hut stands, not alone, but as part of the rising tide of Asian watchmaking. From the restrained elegance of Naoya Hida to the sharp modernism of Ming Thein, Asian watchmakers are reshaping expectations. Beyond geography, what unites them is the conviction to chart their own paths. Fam Al Hut is thus our Rising Star that points the way to this next frontier in watchmaking.
