Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Machine

The Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Fast Forward racing car clock captivates with its nostalgic resonance artfully fused with modern charisma, and embodies cutting-edge forged carbon fiber technology exclusively customized for Bucherer. It nostalgically transports one back to the adrenaline-fueled racetracks of yesteryear, where the latent dreams of one’s childhood are vividly reinvigorated.

Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Fast Forward

The Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Machine is a unique 20-piece limited edition model that harmoniously merges sci-fi inspiration with horological brilliance, culminating in an ultra modern aesthetic.
According to Arnaud Nicolas, CEO and creative director of L’Epée 1839, the idea for the collaboration was sparked by a conversation between the creative minds behind the two companies at a watch exhibition. The result are two intriguing clocks that are also works of art, transporting the observer into a world of fine watchmaking that spans different eras.

The Time Machine

What makes the Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Machine unique is the clock’s blend of futuristic design inspired by sci-fi novels, cinema, and a well-known movie trilogy that has become iconic in the time travel genre. This timepiece is not just a clock, but also a mechanical sculpture that tells the time. Its remarkable construction includes a horizontally built in-house movement, exquisite finishings and meticulous attention to detail.
The decision to choose this model for an exclusive partnership was driven by its inspiration from famous time machines and its intricate details. The Time Machine, L’Epée’s creation, is a mobile and dynamic scientific instrument that pays homage to the worlds of industry and cinema while showcasing the artistry of mechanical clockmaking. Its aesthetic research and balance between tradition and modernity make it a perfect fit for Bucherer and L’Epée’s shared appreciation for design and meaning.
Arnaud Nicolas states, “For our brand, the Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Machine represents a nod to iconic time machines from literature and film. From the classic The Time Machine movie to the beloved Back to the Future trilogy, time machines have captivated our imagination. This timepiece embraces the essence of these iconic machines, reflecting our fascination with time travel and our affinity for the sci-fi genre. It symbolizes our commitment to pushing the boundaries of horology and embracing the future.”

Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Machine

The Time Machine boasts several unique technical functions and design features exclusive to this edition. From the special index police and tripod base reminiscent of the “flux capacitor” to the gear-shaped time indicators and crowns, every detail is crafted with precision. The entire upper part of the timepiece rotates with a single press, transporting one through time. Wheels were specifically designed and skeletonized for this edition. The exquisite finishings on the entire piece further elevate this futuristic sculpture.
The most striking feature of the Time Machine is its 360-degree rotation, showcasing the entire gear train of the eight-day power reserve mechanical movement within the time capsule. To lock the rotation, the owner simply turns a wing-nut, granting them control over the usage of their time machine. The hour and minute display is presented through black metal cylinders inside a glass cylinder, with manually filled white lacquer numbers for optimal visibility. The central indicator between the hour and minute cylinder allows for easy time reading. The large gear-shaped crowns are not just design elements, but also key components of the timekeeping mechanism. The left crown sets the time, while the right crown winds the barrel, empowering the owner to control their journey through time.

The Time Fast Forward

For Bucherer and L’Epée 1839, the Time Fast Forward clock represents a shared love for cars, mechanical craftsmanship and exquisite design. This clock embodies the spirit of the early days of Formula 1 racing and pays tribute to the champions and petrolheads who fueled its growth. Its design was envisioned to honor the construction and design of 1950s race cars, resulting in a timeless aesthetic that will resonate with anyone who appreciates the artistry of both watchmaking and the automotive industry.

Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Fast Forward

The singular seat in the classic 1950s sports car design harks back to the golden era of racing. The monochromatic aesthetics of the bodywork coupled with the high-tech forged carbon fiber uniquely developed for this endeavor lends a cool, contemporary twist to the Time Fast Forward. The engine, comprising a graduated movement with an eight-day power reserve, is seamlessly embedded within the bodywork. The watch also features playful interactive features, such as setting the time using the steering wheel. While steering wheels typically control cars, in this watch, they control time. Another distinctive feature is the winding mechanism, which is reminiscent of pullback cars from one’s childhood. By pulling the car back, the eight-day movement is wound, adding an element of fun and nostalgia to the timekeeping experience.
In addition to the use of exclusive forged carbon bodywork, a special lacquering technique is applied to the spokes, front grill, time indicator and back plate, creating a captivating play of light, and showcasing the material finish beneath. Custom engraving on the back plate adds a personal touch to each clock. The specially designed L’Epée 1839 mechanical movement perfectly complements the form and function of the 1950s Formula 1 racing cars, ensuring a harmonious blend of modernity and tradition.

Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Fast Forward

The Time Fast Forward clock will appeal to a broader audience who are passionate about cars, watches and art. This exclusive edition aims to attract not only seasoned watch collectors, but also a younger generation who can appreciate the fusion of craftsmanship, design and innovation. Nicolas states, “The conditions were to provide something totally different from what was done before — innovative, disruptive, mixing past and future. [We asked] ‘What if 1950s Formula 1 were born today?’”

Bucherer Exclusive L’Epée Time Fast Forward

Both companies thrive on creativity, which led them to the idea of creating two clocks marrying elements of the past with the future in an innovative display. Both brands celebrate Swiss know-how and craftsmanship, reinforcing exclusivity in the world of horology. For those intrigued by the fusion of past, present and future, and traditional watchmaking, these kinetic sculptures offer a unique, immersive experience.
