Introducing the William Wood Fearless Field Watch
In the spirit of ‘giving back’, the brand gives a percentage of sales revenue to international firefighting charities. Garrett also takes upcycling of firefighting equipment very seriously, including taking 100-year-old British brass firefighters’ helmets, melting them down and pouring the residual brass into a mold that forms the inside of the winding crowns of the watches. The straps on the watches are made from genuine upcycled fire hoses in the different colors used by fire departments all around the world.
Today sees the launch of William Wood’s first field watch, which comes in a choice of three colors, with complementary straps and a modern-era fire helmet embossed into the caseback with colored visor. The field watch is essentially a time- or time-and-date-only watch that were devised for military personnel for use in the ‘field’. Rugged and robust, the watches need to be reliable and able to withstand the rigors of the rough and tumble of professional use.
Garrett explained, “We set out to create a collection that was very different to anything we had created so far, but still wanted to stay true to the core values of William Wood. A field watch is a first for us and we are thrilled to finally be able to show off what we have spent nearly a year working on. Sourcing the black fire hose for the straps wasn’t easy, to say the least, but we felt that was a feature that gives this collection an edge, along with the unique and very cool visor caseback, of course.”
