Introducing the TAG Heuer Monaco 1979–1989 Limited Edition “Le Mans”

TAG Heuer launched number two of five special Monaco watches, very appropriately, at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Appropriate because it is as a result of Steve McQueen having worn the Monaco in his 1971 film, Le Mans that the timepiece truly became a cultural icon.

Of course, as a result of it being one of the first water-resistant square watches and one of the first to be powered an automatic-winding chronograph movement, the Monaco was already bound for horological greatness since it came into being in 1969.

This year on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, and that of the automatic caliber that Heuer powered the Monaco with back then, the Caliber 11, TAG Heuer has committed to release 5 special reeditions of the timepiece, each paying homage to a decade of the watch’s existence. You can read more about the limited-edition watch launched in dedication to the first decade of its existence, 1969-1979, here.

The second special edition launched over the weekend is, therefore, dedicated to 1979–1989. The watch in question is the classic 39mm square steel cased Monaco powered by the modern version of the Calibre 11 automatic movement.
