Introducing the MB&F X L’Epée X Massena LAB T-Rex Bronze

First, a bit about William Massena. William is a long-time industry veteran who is first and foremost a watch collector. And while his last held corporate title was as the Chief Operating Officer of Antiquorum in Geneva, he was also a retailer in the USA, with stores in Miami and New York City. Today he continues to be a part of the watch collecting community, offering his services as a consultant and under his Massena LAB venture.

Massena LAB, which has produced some notable limited editions with Habring2, starting with the TimeZone 20th Anniversary Habring2 Chrono COS, reference TZ20 in 2015 and most recently the 50-piece limited edition ERWIN LAB01 announced in 2018, which featured a 38.5mm bronze case with a great sector dial, powered by the manual-winding deadbeat center seconds Calibre A11MS.

The last timepiece from the Massena LAB was the UNIMATIC U1-ML6, a 41.5mm stainless steel diver with a uni-directional bezel, an oxidized tropical brown galvanized dial, powered by a Seiko NH35A movement. The U1-ML6 was just a good-looking diver, priced sensibly.

Late last week, Massena LAB announced their latest collaboration, the MB&F X L’Epée X Massena LAB T-Rex Bronze. MB&F initially launched the T-Rex Table Clock as a unique creation for Only Watch 2019. The production version of the table clock released later in August in stainless steel, palladium-plated brass and bronze, with the unmistakable colored Murano glass dial.

The MB&F X L’Epée X Massena LAB T-Rex Bronze now is an all bronze limited edition of 15 pieces. Each of these 15 pieces are made special by the fact they are all hand patinated before a stabilization process is applied so that further surface oxidization is arrested. As a result, every individual T-Rex Bronze is distinct from the next.

As much as we are mostly used to seeing MB&F X L’Epée clocks in slick high-polish metal finishes, the bronze does give the T-Rex a very primal, ancient-artifact type character. One which is bound to resonate with more people than the 15 pieces being issued.
