Introducing the Greubel Forsey GMT Sport “Sincere Fine Watches Special Edition”By Suan Futt Yeo
The signature feature of the Greubel Forsey GMT Sport that was released in 2019 is the Tourbillon 24 Secondes, an invention of the company that posits a fast-spinning tourbillon at a 25-degree tilt. Completing one rotation in 24 seconds as opposed to the conventional 60 seconds affords added stability, so that the tourbillon is less perturbed by life’s mad jungle of disruptive forces. Combined with what Greubel Forsey has found to be the optimum tilt to offset gravitational forces with consideration to movement height, the Tourbillon 24 Secondes punches above its weight class in a single-tourbillon system.
Then Greubel Forsey went on to build a most impressive watch around this innovation: a sumptuous 3D construct that brims with depth and detail. The elliptical case is not 2D as a rubber band lying flat on a desk; rather, it wraps around one’s wrist in a sweep that is paralleled in the curve of the sapphire crystal, suspension bridges on the dial as well as the open-worked hands.
Fitting for a sports watch, the GMT Sport offers generous functionality that is very clearly and efficiently presented: the dial gives way to dramatically curved bridges that suspend the local time hands at the centre; the right side of the dial bears the tourbillon and power reserve indicator; on the right, the hour in a second time zone is indicated at ‘11’ mated with running seconds on a rotating disc, above a rotating globe that shows the day/night hour of every longitude (well, 24 time zones) at a glance.
Turning the watch over, a cities disk between two calibrated rings display the Universal (UTC) and Summer Time for 24 cities in 24 major time zones.
For 2021, the Sincere Fine Watches Special Edition that is limited to five pieces is the same watch, with orange accents throughout the watch and including the globe, complemented by a megawatt bright orange rubber strap. The watch is also available with an integrated titanium bracelet with fine adjustment, featuring polished, matt, and frosted finishes that flow naturally from the case. On the back, the cities disk includes Singapore, the home country of Sincere Fine Watches, highlighted in red. Also different is the bevel of the bezel, which does not feature the boldly engraved lettering of the original GMT Sport.
The GMT Sport is robust like a cruiserweight boxer – it has measured bulk without an ounce of excess, featuring a high performance single-tourbillon, very useful complications that are most intuitively read, and the very best of high watchmaking in a light titanium case that is water resistant to 100 meters. With the Sincere Edition, one gets this awesome watch in a summery orange that stands out from the rest of Greubel Forsey’s fabulous collection.
