Introducing Richard Mille RM07-01 and RM037 Snow Settings

The Low-Down

When the lady in your life mentions the plaintive words ‘snow setting’ in relation to a watch she desires, you know you will have to dig deep. And if she should mention ‘Richard Mille’ in the same sentence, you know you are talking Mariana Trench levels of depth.

Richard Mille’s gem setters have been busy arranging these exquisite gems in a seemingly haphazard way to create on a watch case and dial the magic of a snow setting that perfectly captures the sparkle and glitter of freshly fallen snow in the early morning sun.

The stones are of differing sizes each held only by slender prongs drawn out by the craftsman, and, like snow, completely blanketing the surface. It’s no easy task for the gems have varying diameters of between 0.5 to 1.6 millimeters. Each gem fits snugly to within a micron’s precision, while maintaining the illusion of a random pattern. As a result, no two snow settings are alike, and each piece is dazzlingly unique.

Richard Mille has developed a full snow set version all in white gold that sparkles with a pavé of diamonds on the bezel that is painstakingly continued across the entire dial. The gem-set case band pillars and sleek open-link bracelet complete the look.

The RM07-01 runs on the in-house designed CRMA2 calibre, skeletonized automatic movement developed specifically for this model with a variable-geometry rotor and a power reserve of 50 hours

Many might associate Richard Mille with the likes of tennis superstar Rafael Nadal, who managed to lose a $500,000 Richard Mille watch some years ago, but in fact women’s watches represent up to a quarter of Richard Mille’s sales, with the RM07-01 being the most popular model, beloved for its size and sinuous shape.

The new Snow Setting model follows on from last month’s introduction of the RM07-01 Automatic Starry Night made from Carbon TPT. Richard Mille has brilliantly highlighted not only the brand’s technical prowess, but also their expertise in setting the diamonds to transform a sports watch into a beautiful wrist jewelry.
