The Low Down
Grand Seiko continues their focus on svelte beauty, elegance, and simplicity in the form of time-only quartz watches as they release the SBGX347 and SBGX349. These watches are the newest additions to the Grand Seiko Elegance Collection.
Both watches fit the quintessential Grand Seiko design, in fact the narrow bezel and box-shaped crystal call back to designs from Grand Seiko’s past. Still, these watches are unique. They have clear and clean dials with a unique texture that allows the watches to still be visually striking despite their simplicity. The hour and minute hands are all diamond cut and reflect even the smallest traces of light which contributes even further to the watches’ elegance. The watches have a 34mm case and a slim profile allowing for a natural, sleek look whether they are on the wrist of a man or woman. The watches are powered by a Caliber 9F61, a high-end quartz caliber with a robust build and accuracy of +/- 10 seconds a year.
The differences between the watches are in the dial colorways. The SBGX347 has a clean, noble look, with a white dial evoking moonlight and a black crocodile leather strap with a buckle. The SBGX349 has a bold, sharp look. It has a striking blue dial that evokes the sky, and a dark blue crocodile leather strap with a buckle.
Both watches are simplicity at its finest. Grand Seiko has found a way to do what works, and do it well, while leaving out everything else. The case shape and size are both elegant and petite. Because of this simplicity, the sharp blues of the SBGX349 work in a stylish contrast, making it a worthy addition to formal wardrobe, but both watches could fit comfortably on anyone’s wrist and as the crown piece to many outfits.
