Introducing the Casio GMA-S2100By Adam Craniotes
G-SHOCK is capitalizing on the runaway success of its GA-2100 series, affectionately dubbed the “Casioak” by fans for its uncanny resemblance to a certain octagonally cased sport watch from Le Brassus, with a new, slightly smaller version aimed squarely at the ladies’ market.
The GMA-S2100, falls under the banner of G-SHOCK’s “S Series” collection, which is geared towards women who want traditional G-SHOCK styling, but in a smaller size. (Apparently not all women want their watch to shout “BABY-G” from the bezel.) As such, it not only borrows all the same design cues from the GA-2100, including its Carbon Core Guard case construction, but it also borrows the same ana-digi module, which features world time, a stopwatch, countdown timer, and five independent alarms. As with the GA-2100, water-resistance is rated at 20 bar (approximately 200 meters).
While the GMA-S2100 may be marketed as a women’s watch, an argument can be made that its svelter dimensions – 46.2 x 42.9 x 11.2 millimeters – make it an even better example of the breed. Indeed, we can see the black version with the metallic gold markers making itself right at home on any man’s wrist (the same goes for the all-white version, which has yet to have an equivalent in the GA-2100).
Initially four colorways will be offered at launch in the North American market, including the aforementioned black and white versions – GMA-S2100-1A and GMA-S2100-7A, respectively – which are accompanied by the GMA-S2100-4A in blush pink with rose gold markers, and the GMA-S2100-4A2 in salmon pink with metallic pink markers.
Clearly G-SHOCK knows a good thing when they see it, and the GMA-S2100 is an excellent addition to the family, and one with broader appeal than perhaps they might think.
