Hamilton’s journey commenced during an epoch when the United States was a global frontrunner in watch production. The inception of the company coincided with the country’s entry into the industrial age, and Hamilton swiftly became a pivotal actor in shaping the nation’s temporal narrative.
The first wristwatches that Hamilton manufactured for the U.S. forces were modified pocket watches, equipped with wire lugs that allowed them to be strapped to the wrist. With the onset of World War II in 1942, Hamilton produced and delivered more than a million watches to the military. These timepieces, now recognized as the precursors of the Hamilton Khaki. Throughout the 1950s and ’60s, Hamilton continued to supply watches to U.S. military units, adhering to strict specifications set by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Between 1943 and 1945, Hamilton was awarded with the Army-Navy “E” award five times for its unparalleled contribution to the war effort.

Fast forward to today, and the Hamilton Watch Company, now under the ownership of Switzerland’s Swatch Group, continues to honor its military heritage with the Khaki collection. This lineup pays tribute to the rugged timepieces Hamilton produced for military units in the past, all the while offering contemporary features and designs that appeal to the modern consumer.
The Khaki Field Mechanical models are the most direct descendants of the original military-inspired Hamilton watches. They feature modest 38mm cases and manually wound and automatic movements, offering a vintage feel that is sure to appeal to lovers of classic military watches. The Khaki Field Mechanical models are available in various case materials, including standard stainless steel, black PVD-coated steel, and even bronze for a slightly higher premium.
