Girard-Perregaux Pens Partnership with Aston Martin

There aren’t a lot of watchmaking names that can say that its been in business, producing watches for a totality of 230 years. This is exactly the claim that Girard-Perregaux is able to make in the year 2021, as it marks its 230th anniversary.

Having given the world their three gold bridges at the 1889 World’s Fair, the world’s first 5Hz mechanical movement in 1965 and most recently the 2008 Girard-Perregaux constant-force escapement mechanism that is truly an accomplishment that had the watch industry sit up and take notice.

With new ownership in place as of 2011 and new leadership in 2018, with CEO Patrick Pruniaux firmly at the helm, the watch brand is has been slowly ramping up to making its mark yet again. Particularly notable in this ramp up was the November 2020 project Girard-Perregaux embarked on with the Bamford Watch Department, which resulted  in the excellent, Laureato Ghost.

Today’s announcement though is a big one, which suggests that the ramp up is coming to a crescendo, where the brand’s 230th anniversary celebrations are concerned. Girard-Perregaux is putting word out today that they’ve just minted a partnership with luxury British automotive manufacturer, Aston Martin. While it’s just the announcement made for now, we’ve been advised that the two brands will be working closely on upcoming limited-edition timepieces.

On top of watch collaborations, Girard-Perregaux branding will also feature on the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™️ Team cars as of the beginning of the 2021 F1 season in Bahrain. Speaking about the partnership, Tobias Moers, Aston Martin Lagonda’s Chief Executive Officer, shares, “The real beauty of partnerships such as this one is that, although we share very similar core values, the two brands can learn a great deal from one another. Girard-Perregaux is a prolific innovator in the use of materials and new technology. We both create highly desirable luxury products that are beautifully designed, deliver a powerful performance and exhibit flawless execution.”

Adding to the conversation, Patrick Pruniaux, Girard-Perregaux’s Chief Executive Officer, shared, “2021 is an important year for both Girard-Perregaux and Aston Martin. We are celebrating an astonishing 230 years of watchmaking, whilst Aston Martin celebrates its return to Formula One as a works team for the first time in over 60 years. We have much to celebrate so uniting our worlds to create something special is the perfect way to acknowledge and appreciate these milestones.”
