Introducing the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition

Share

Two years ago, Girard-Perregaux embarked on a partnership with Aston Martin, quickly releasing a series of collaborative watches. From a triple-bridge tourbillon watch to sports chronographs in racing green, the special editions showcase the unique features and rich histories of both brands.

But now, the most distilled version of this collaboration has arrived in the form of a simple, three-hand Laureato. What sets this new timepiece apart is its construction – made entirely of green ceramic, including the bracelet, it marks a significant shift from previous models in terms of the materials used.

The Low-Down

The Laureato is a classic sports watch that’s been around for almost 50 years, with its integrated bracelet and versatile design making it a go-to timepiece for all occasions and genders. The collaborative Laureato limited edition is naturally available in two sizes, 38mm and 42mm, catering to a broad range of watch and car enthusiasts.

One hallmark of a luxury sports watch is its thinness, and the Laureato retains this feature thanks to the brand’s slim movements. With a thickness ranging from 10.27 mm to 11.08 mm for the two case sizes, the Laureato has a relatively flat wrist presence, which not only adds to its elegance but also makes it comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. And with the new green ceramic material, the watch is even lighter than steel, further enhancing the wrist comfort.

The unique green hue of the ceramic case is a nod to the iconic Aston Martin Racing Green, which has a historical significance in the world of racing. In the early 20th century, race cars were painted colors according to the nationality of the teams before they were allowed on public roads, and British cars were painted in green. The modern interpretation of British Racing Green is darker, and the Laureato’s forest green hue reveals itself under the right lighting, giving the watch an understated yet interesting look.

IMHO

Unlike earlier Aston Martin editions, this new timepiece caters to enthusiasts who prefer a cleaner aesthetic. Despite its simplicity, the latest achieves more in terms of design coherence, as the green-on-green color scheme creates a visually seamless and calming look. However, the watch is far from mundane thanks to its crosshatch patterned dial, which draws inspiration from Aston Martin’s early logo in the 1920s.

The use of ceramic as the material for the watch case and bracelet is not only striking, but also practical in terms of its lightweight properties – a feature commonly associated with sports cars. Although ceramic is frequently used in watchmaking, a bracelet made entirely of ceramic remains a noteworthy feature. The reflective surface of the ceramic material is the perfect canvas for showcasing the intricate mix of polished and brushed surfaces that is typical of luxury sports watches.
