Maurice Lacroix, the renowned Swiss watchmaker, is thrilled to unveil its latest collaboration, the Pontos S Diver x Lidija Lijić. This exceptional timepiece fearlessly embraces the depths, revisiting the first-generation model from 2013 and incorporating numerous enhancements while staying true to its famous design. Pushing the boundaries of performance, Maurice Lacroix joined forces with Lidija Lijić, a world champion free diver from Croatia renowned for her record-breaking 5 minutes and 43 seconds underwater dive. She also holds the record for highest dive in the Himalayas. Lidija’s extraordinary feats and relentless pursuit of excellence made her the perfect partner to put the Pontos S Diver to the ultimate test.

Initially released in 2013, the Pontos S Diver became a fan-favorite before Maurice Lacroix shifted its focus to the highly successful Aikon line. However, the demand for the legendary divers’ watch persisted, leading the brand to respond to the clamor with a new and improved version of the Pontos S Diver. While this timepiece boasts a fresh appearance, it remains loyal to the original design language and urban-inspired styling for which Maurice Lacroix is renowned. Crafted with precision in the brand’s Swiss manufacture, the Pontos S Diver exemplifies the brand’s commitment to quality and value. Two main improvements from the previous generation Pontos are the smaller case size (43mm vs. 42mm), and slimmer case height (15mm vs. 12mm).

When it came to developing the latest iteration of the Pontos S Diver, Maurice Lacroix turned to Lidija, a versatile athlete who thrives in both warm seas and icy Himalayan waters. Her unwavering courage and relentless dedication to rigorous training mirror the essence of freediving—an extreme sport that demands self-control, concentration, and confidence. The brand wanted to push the limits of their newest creation, and Lidija was up to the challenge.

Stéphane Waser, Managing Director of Maurice Lacroix, expressed his admiration for Lidija, stating, “When developing this latest Pontos S Diver, we were keen to retain the spirit of the first-generation model, but push the performance envelope with various product enhancements. As an ML Crew member, it seemed logical to ask Lidija Lijić to test the new model…exploring its full potential, deep underwater. While I was already aware of her achievements and immense talent, I was struck by her sheer dedication, not only to her sport, but in everything she does. She proved the perfect test pilot for this divers’ watch which is water resistant to 30 ATM. Lidija also informs us that the watch makes a strong statement on dry land too!”

A point to note is that the 2013 version had 600 meters water resistance and a helium valve for saturation diving. Hence, the 2023 Pontos S Diver is not ISO 6425 certified but can be used for scuba diving as tested by Lidija.

With a 42mm case, the Pontos S Diver is available in stainless steel or, for the first time, bronze. The hour and minute hands feature Super-LumiNova for excellent visibility, and the minute hand boasts a colored border for added flair. Applied indexes and luminescent treatment ensure readability, while subtle dial refinements make the indexes and minute markings more prominent. The date display, framed with a raised border, stands out elegantly. Each detail is thoughtfully optimized to provide peerless readability in any situation.

The watch’s functionality is enhanced by a dedicated crown positioned at 2 o’clock, allowing the wearer to adjust the internal rotating bezel. The bezel, featuring a count-up scale, serves as a practical tool for measuring elapsed time underwater. The Pontos S Diver also includes a center seconds hand and a date display at 6 o’clock. Another crown, located at 3 o’clock, enables adjustment of various indications and manual winding of the movement.

The Pontos S Diver offers an array of interesting variants. Steel models present a choice between black grained or white lacquered dials. As for the limited-edition bronze model, only 500 pieces are available, featuring a stunning blue grained dial. The crown positioned at 2 o’clock on the bronze model is adorned with a matching circlet, ensuring its visibility underwater.

Powering the Pontos S Diver is the automatic ML115 caliber, eliminating the need for manual winding. The bronze version comes with two straps—a vintage dark blue leather strap adorned with the brand’s M-logo, and a dark blue rubber strap embossed with ‘Maurice Lacroix.’ The steel models, on the other hand, are supplied with three color-coordinating straps, including an M-branded fabric strap and two rubber straps featuring Maurice Lacroix branding in relief. The watch’s Easy Strap Exchange System allows for seamless strap swapping without the need for tools, providing added versatility.
