Here’s an inside story: day three of SIHH 2019, the IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36mm Special Edition for The Rake and Revolution becomes available to buy on www.Revolution.Watch and TheRake.com, and while our sister magazine’s website is accustomed to larger volumes of web traffic, Revolution’s site isn’t.
So, what happens? www.Revolution.Watch’s backend lights up red, warning flares going up all round, we’re about to crash. Luckily the boys and girls who keep an eye on the site are a super responsible bunch. They save the site from disaster and our limited-edition watch — 144 pieces — is sold out in the blink of an eye.
Hang on. Wasn’t the watch made in a limited run of 150 pieces? What happened to the other 6?
When the designs for the IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36mm Special Edition for The Rake and Revolution were finalized and we got to share it with the many partners who came alongside us to roll out the timepiece, the response we received put a feeling in our guts that this was going to be something special.
While the watches are being delivered to their respective owners as we speak, what is incredibly humbling to us is that people from the watch collecting community are still getting in touch with us, asking to be put on a waitlist.
So, here’s where we level up. Of the many partners who agreed to work on the project with us, one was the behemoth menswear online retailer MrPorter.com.
