The best collaboration of the year is also one that contains a charitable aspect to it, which provides another great reason to give this award to the De Bethune x URWERK Moon Satellite for Only Watch 2019.

This unique piece, auctioned during the Only Watch sale in support of the fight against Duchenne muscular dystrophy, unites two amazing independent watchmaking maisons and is the story of four personalities: Denis Flageollet and Pierre Jacques at De Bethune, and Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei at Urwerk, who joined their creative minds to produce a watch that retains the noted characteristics of both brands.

To display the time you find URWERK’s signature wandering hours gracefully moving within a titanium case designed as if a De Bethune DB28, with the trademark spring-loaded lugs, were merged with the URWERK UR-101.

The calibre DBUR2105 features several of De Bethune’s innovations such as the titanium balance wheel with white gold inserts, the triple pare-chute shock-absorbing system and the maison’s spherical moon phase. As is customary with De Bethune, the case and movement are finished to an exceptional level with mirror-polish all over the 43mm titanium case as well as the barrel bridge. For a touch of color, look at the blued steel elements present on the movement which you can admire through the sapphire caseback.

The boldness and futuristic time display of URWERK is perfectly associated with the 21st century haute horlogerie aesthetic provided by De Bethune. The two watchmaking houses mixed their respective expertise to perfection, which is why it receives this year’s best collaboration award.
