Celebrated for its wisdom, adaptability, and mysterious allure, the snake has inspired some of the most creative timepieces to mark the occasion. Far from being mere nods to tradition, these designs embody a sense of transformation — both in craftsmanship and in how they reinterpret the Chinese Zodiac. Whether it’s a coiled motif, gem-encrusted scales, or avant-garde case shapes, these serpentine-inspired watches welcome the Lunar New Year as it slithers into view.

Cartier’s New Trinity Designs

The latest interpretations of Cartier’s Trinity expands the collection to reimagine the three interlinked rings. The luxury house has introduced an animal-inspired series that incorporates three of the house’s signature creatures: the panther, tiger, and snake. Each ring in the tripartite design features distinct characteristics — snake-like scales in white gold, black lacquered panther spots, and tiger stripes in yellow and rose gold, with each band shaped to reflect its animal inspiration.

The collection also explores new geometric possibilities with a cushion-shaped Trinity variation, featuring angular yet fluid rings that maintain the original’s seamless movement. This innovative shape extends to an intricately crafted XL necklace, where varying sizes of cushion-shaped rings create a striking architectural effect.

Bvlgari Serpenti Automatic

It’s no Bvlgari without Serpenti. At LVMH Watch Week 2025, the manufacture debuted the Caliber BVS 100 Lady Solotempo, a new automatic movement that marks the first time both the Serpenti Tubogas and Serpenti Seduttori models feature self-winding capabilities.

The new movement powers an extensive range of timepieces, including single and double-twirl Tubogas models and seven distinct Serpenti Seduttori variations. The collection spans from elegant stainless steel versions with black lacquered or white opaline dials to luxurious full gold models with diamond-set bezels. The caliber boasts an impressive 50-hour power reserve and features a distinctive oscillating weight decorated with a snake scale motif, visible through the exhibition caseback.

RRP: from €11,300

Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Snake

Vacheron Constantin continues its celebrated Métiers d’Art series with The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac: Year of the Snake, a tribute to the wisdom, renewal, and prosperity symbolized by the sixth sign of the Chinese zodiac. For 2025, the serpent takes center stage, brought to life on two breathtaking limited-edition dials.

The cobra, rendered in pink or white gold, is masterfully engraved. Surrounding the serpent, the dial is adorned with grand feu enamel, showcasing vivid colors and depth. Limited to just 25 pieces each, the two variations feature a 40mm case in either 18K pink gold or platinum.

Franck Muller Silhouette CX Snake

Franck Muller continues its playful celebration of the Chinese Zodiac with a bold new addition for 2025: the Silhouette CX Snake. Departing from the ultra-contemporary designs of recent years, this year’s creation introduces an entirely new case shape — an asymmetrical form case that stands out in a sea of traditional Zodiac watches. Inspired by the sinuous curves of a snake, the case’s flowing design echoes the serpentine inspiration.

The dial is adorned with Franck Muller’s signature guilloché pattern and bold Arabic numerals, while two strips of emerald-set accents echo a snake-like design. Enhancing the watch’s thematic coherence, the green calf leather strap is embossed to mimic snake scales. Inside, the Silhouette CX Snake houses the MVT FM 2038, a movement based on the ETA 2892. Slim at 8.3 mm thick, the watch maintains an elegant profile while delivering a 40-hour power reserve at a high-frequency 4 Hz.

Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Year of the Snake

The  latest lunar zodiac timepiece from Hublot is, perhaps, among the most regal-looking one of the lot. The watch is limited to 88 pieces and features a few pleasingly serpentine details. Most obvious is the bezel and strap, which feature a pattern of the snake’s shimmering scales. Beyond that, there’s a golden serpent, with its head at 12, and a delicately sculpted body that sinuously weaves its way around the registers and subdials, creating a delicate piece of high contrast drama to this watch. Of course, in the Chinese zodiac, the snake is a symbol of wisdom, charm and transformation, and this Hublot is a fitting celebration of this essence. It’s also worth pointing out that, even if the symbolism of the animal doesn’t mean much to you, this is a genuinely cool Hublot, packed full of the sort of rockstar energy and rebellious spirit.

IWC Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 Year of the Snake

The new Portofino Automatic Moon Phase 37 Year of the Snake showcases a 37-millimeter stainless steel case with a distinctive burgundy dial — akin to the Dragon edition from last year. The gold-plated hands and appliques complement the golden moon and stars on the dial, whose moon phase display at 12 o’clock deviates from the actual lunar cycle by only one day every 122 years.

The watch is powered by IWC’s in-house 32800 calibre movement, offering a five-day power reserve. On the caseback, the snake motif reappears in the form of a gold-plated oscillating mass.

Longines Conquest Heritage Year of the Snake

Longines presents a new limited edition timepiece in the Conquest collection celebrating the 2025 Year of the Wood Snake. Limited to 2,025 pieces, this special edition features a 40mm stainless steel case housing a gradient red sunray dial, adorned with distinctive gilt hands and indexes that echo the collection’s 1950s origins.

An intricate engraving titled ‘Divine Snake Presents Treasure’ decorates the caseback, a design done in collaboration with renowned Chinese artist Wu Jian’an. The design reinterprets the classic Chinese tale ‘The Legend of the White Snake,’ depicting a mystical serpent clutching a Lingzhi mushroom — symbols of wisdom, vitality, and prosperity in East Asian culture.

At its heart beats the exclusive Longines L888.5 calibre, featuring advanced magnetic resistance and a 72-hour power reserve, equipped with a silicon balance-spring. Available at Longines Marina Bay Sands, Wisma Atria Boutique, Bugis Junction & Jewel Changi.

RRP: SGD 4,300

Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon 41.5 Red Gold “Year of the Snake”

Arnold & Son presents the Perpetual Moon 41.5 “Year of the Snake” that features a hand-engraved snake crafted from 18K rose gold. The serpent’s intricate details — from its fine scales to its forked tongue — stand out against a blue aventurine glass dial, as it coils around a Ginkgo biloba branch. Above this scene, a luminescent mother-of-pearl moon glows amid painted constellations of Ursa Major and Cassiopeia, creating a celestial theatre that pays homage to Chinese zodiac traditions.

The lunar theme extends to its caseback, where a secondary moon phase display enables precise adjustment of the complication — the mechanism tracks the moon’s phases so accurately that it would take 122 years to deviate by 24 hours from astronomical reality. All of this functions on the manual-winding manufacture calibre A&S1512 that’s housed within a 41.5mm red gold case; the movement offers a generous 90-hour power reserve.

RRP: CHF 57,200 (incl. VAT)

Perrelet Turbine Snake

At Perrelet, the new Turbine Snake shows off its signature turbine mechanism, featuring 12 black anodized aluminum blades that rotate with wrist movement, dramatically revealing a three-dimensional golden snake beneath. This serpentine figure, rendered in stamped and gilded metal, rests on a red lacquered sub-dial adorned with auspicious Chinese characters symbolizing prosperity and well-being.

Housed in a 41mm black DLC-coated titanium case, the Turbine Snake is powered by Perrelet’s in-house P-331-MH caliber. This self-winding movement boasts both COSC chronometer certification and Chronofiable® reliability certification, offering a 42-hour power reserve and 28,800 vph frequency. Available from February 2025, the watch comes presented in a specially designed box featuring the snake motif.
