The Dennison X Collectability Watch is a celebration of quiet simplicity

The first watch for John Reardon's Collectability is an object lesson in considered design.

When we found out that Collectibility, one of the most respected names in watch collecting, was teaming up with accessible darlings Dennison, we were as surprised as we were excited. Because behind this humble yet elegant watch were some of the biggest names in their respective fields. The resulting watch is the Dennison x Collectability special edition, and it’s exceptional.

The Dennison X Collectability watch marks the first watch project Collectability has worked on.

Collectibility was founded in 2019 by John Reardon and Tania Edwards, Collectability has, in the last six years, become one of the leading names in collecting, especially when it comes to Patek Philippe. This success should come as no surprise when you learn that it was started by John Reardon and Tania Edwards.

John Reardon is a certified legend in the world of watch collecting, beginning his career at Sothebey’s in the late 1990s and, over the last three decades, he’s built up an incredible resume, including a decade at Patek Philippe USA and five years as the International Head of Watches at Christie’s. During this time, he literally wrote the book on Patek Philippe — well, actually three books — and is widely regarded as one of the foremost experts on the brand working today.

Tania Edwards has a similarly lengthy background in watches, notably as Marketing Director for Patek Philippe USA, which saw her develop the iconic ‘You never actually own a Patek Philipe’ campaign. In 2019, this dynamic duo launched Collectibility, a specialised dealer service focussed on (you guessed it) Patek Philippe.

As a name, Dennison is an old one — dating back to 1874, but its current iteration is far more fresh-faced, relaunching in 2024 under the leadership of Stéphane Cheikh, with a simple-yet-shapely design from the pen of Emmanuel Gueit, a second-generation watch designer most famous for this work on the Royal Oak Offshore and, more recently, the Rolex 1908. Gueit’s design for Dennison (the A.L.D.) leans heavily into the rich heritage of design-driven watches, often with hardstone dials, all elements that are right in Collectibility’s wheelhouse.

All this explains why the collaboration — which is the first of its kind for Collectability — makes so much sense. It’s an opportunity for Collectability to take everything they’ve learned about bold designs and remove some of the rarefied air of the vintage watch scene, making this sort of fun twist on design-driven watches more democratic. About the watch John Reardon comments; “This collaboration breaks the mold, offering a design and price point that make the perfect watch not a future aspiration but an immediate reality. It’s not for the next generation. It’s for NOW.”

Simply put, the Dennison x Collectability watch is beautiful. The softened rectangular case shape is perhaps best described as a ‘TV” shape is offered in steel of gold PVD, and it’s clearly the heart of this design. The crown is recessed to not mar the lines too much, and the silhouette is echoed by the chapter ring on the dial, a detail in either steel or gold to match the dial, as are the refined hands. Really, though, the most remarkable thing about the dial is the two-tone sunray effect; the inner dial is a deep, rich blue, while the outermost portion is a paler, sky blue. It’s a deceptively simple design overall, but one that draws from a rich legacy of design history and seamlessly integrates it into a 37mm package that is polished, both literally and figuratively.

The Dennison x Collectability watch will be on show at the “Sous Les Toiles Gallery” during Madison Avenue Watch Week, running from May 6-10 in New York. Both versions will cost 690 USD and will be available to pre-order for five days, starting on the 6th of May.
