Revolution Watch Podcast Ep. 7: Fred Mandelbaum a.k.a @watchfred

Our guest for this episode is prominent watch collector Fred Mandelbaum, or @watchfred as he’s more commonly known as on social media. Mandelbaum has almost 50k followers on Instagram, he’s extremely influential in the watch community and a quick scroll through his feed tells you why. Mandelbaum is an expert when it comes to vintage chronographs, and specifically on vintage Breitling chronographs.

Mandelbaum’s near encyclopedic knowledge of Breitling watches is the reason why Breitling CEO Georges Kern reached out to him to consult on the company as it attempts to reconnect with its aviation roots. Breitling had an immensely rich archive, and Kern needed someone to help him navigate it. The man for the job was Mandelbaum, an Austrian collector who has amassed a collection of over a hundred watches. And it was Mandelbaum that Kern turned to in order to reissue the Navitimer Ref. 806 from 1959.

We met Mandelbaum at Baselworld earlier in March to talk about his collection, working with Georges Kern and the challenges he put the team through to make the re-edition of the Ref. 806 a major success.
